Two Beloved American Pastors

The right-wing media is having a field day showing repeated loops of Obama's pastor, Reverend Jeremiah Wright, and his various "Anti-American rants" all around the clock.   Of course, Obama has said that he totally disagrees with and repudiates most of Wright's comments on this loop.   That, of course, does not stop the right-wing media from continuing to air these spliced Wright sermons ad infinitum and ad nauseum.

Meanwhile, John McCain says  he is "very honored" to have the endorsement of Christian Pastor John Hagee, whose endorsement McCain has been seeking for over a year.   Pastor Hagee has called the Catholic Church "The Great Whore", "an apostate church", "the anti-Christ" and "a false cult system".

The good Pastor Hagee has also called for the United States to conduct "a pre-emptive military strike against Iran to fulfill God's plan ... a Biblically prophesied end-time confrontation  with Iran which will lead to Rapture, Tribulation [the death of all surviving Jews], and The Second Coming of Christ".

Somehow, the right-wing media does not feel the same urgency about airing a similar loop of Pastor Hagee's crazy comments to their viewers all around the clock.    Why is that?   Unlike Obama, McCain has rejected neither Pastor Hagee nor his insane and bigoted rhetoric.

As John F. Kennedy said (more or less):  "I hope that no American will waste his vote by voting either for me or against me based upon the opinions of my pastor rather than on my own personal views."

Perhaps the safest course from now on is for all presidential candidates (of both parties) to be atheists or agnostics.  It's a bi-partisan solution.  That way, no candidate will be forced to bear the burden of being saddled with the political and social views of his religious mentor.

Atheists to the White House!!   If Religion is the Opiate of the Masses, then maybe it's time to have a Sober, Un-Stoned President for a change.
