You must overcome this Reverend Wright smear.
The Right-Wing is Swift-Boating you with Reverend Wright. It could
cost you the election, the same as the 527 Swift Boaters did to John
Kerry.
Personally, I believe that Reverend Wright is one of America's truly
great ministers, with an extraordinary record of accomplishment.
He is a preacher in the tradition of Amos, Jeremiah, and other Old
Testament firebrand prophets, who gave their parishioners Hell, and
therefore were often hated in their day, but are venerated now and
hold high places of honor in the Bible.
You must find a way to turn it around and show the American people
that when Reverend Wright "gives 'em Hell", he is doing something very good and positive for this country.
Patriotism is not waving the flag, crushing dissent, and marching our
troops into endless, senseless wars. Patriotism is what Reverend
Wright does -- speaking truth to power and urging our nation to live
up to its highest ideals.
Yes, in the heat of his sermon, Reverend Wright said a few things that
were off the walls and some that were dead wrong. But most people in
attendance that day may not have heard most of those negative things
because they were drowned out in all the good things Reverend Wright
said, which were the true heart and soul of his sermon and his
ministry.
You must find a way to get the American people to understand that.
Reverend Wright should be a source of pride to you, not an albatross
around your neck.
