Jesse Jackson vs. Louis Farrakhan

You're right. Those white racist Republicans are totally one-sided. I'm glad you see that.

About 25 years ago, Jesse Jackson got into deep trouble with the Jews because he told a private joke to a friend in which he referred to New York City as "Hymietown" -- and that private joke was overheard by the world.

Jackson was instantly labeled an Anti-Semite by everyone.

However, some years later, at the request of the government of Israel, Jackson went on a personal mission to Libya (or one of the other Arab countries he was friendly with) to negotiate for the release of an Israeli prisoner that Arab country was holding. I believe Jackson's mission was successful, and the Israeli was freed and returned to Israel.

No real anti-Semite would ever have undertaken such a mission -- to free a Jew.

Farrakhan has done a lot of good for the black community, and he is highly regarded by many blacks. But as far as I know, Farrakhan is still an unrepentant anti-Semite. I don't know of any good deed he has ever done for the Jews, or any good word he he's had to say about Jews.

So, I think there is a big difference between Jackson and Farrakhan, when it comes to the Jews. I don't think blacks should have such high esteem for Farrakhan as long as he remains a virulent anti-Semite. Obama was quite right to denounce Farrakhan.

Fact Check: Jesse Jackson's trip to SYRIA to free a US Navy pilot Robert Goodman was NOT at the request of the Israeli government and Farrakhan played an instrumental role in that mission.

As for Farrakhan's alleged anti-Semitism.. that is plain old B.S. much of which is based on a quote that he never made.

The intense and even fanatical hatred toward this man is unfounded.

See the following:

Responding to the widely reported assertion that he referred to Judaism as a dirty and "gutter religion", Farrakhan wrote a June 18 1997 letter to a former Wallstreet Journal associate editor, Jude Wanniski, stating in part:

Countless times over the years I have explained that I never referred to Judaism as a dirty religion, but, clearly referred to the machinations of those who hide behind the shield of Judaism while using unjust political means to achieve their objectives. This was distilled in the New York tabloids and other media saying, "Farrakhan calls Judaism a gutter religion." As a Muslim, I revere Abraham, Moses, and all the Prophets who Allah (God) sent to the children of Israel. I believe in the scriptures brought by these Prophets and the Laws of Allah (God) as expressed in the Torah. I would never refer to the Revealed Word of Allah (God) -- the basis of Jewish Faith -- as "dirty" or "gutter." You know, Jude, as well as I, that the Revealed Word of Allah (God) comes as a Message from Allah (God) to purify us from our evil that has divided us and caused us to fall into the gutter. Over the centuries, the evils of Christians, Jews and Muslims have dirtied their respective religions. True Faith in the laws and Teaching of Abraham, Jesus and Muhammad is not dirty, but, practices in the name of these religions can be unclean and can cause people to look upon the misrepresented religion as being unclean.
