Socialism or Capitalism?
Conservatives like Rush Limbaugh, Michael Savage, Sean Hannity and Glenn Beck have a funny way of calling those who are trying to save capitalism "Socialists", and those who destroy capitalism -- like the Bush and Cheney Gang - - well, they are "Capitalists". Conservatives engage in reverse gobbledy-speak. The only reason capitalism is in such deep trouble now -- shedding jobs so massively every month -- is because of Bush's "Conservative" policies of the past eight years -- tax breaks for the wealthiest, de-regulation, government incompetence and cronyism -- and everything else be damned. Those greedy, short-sighted "Capitalists" are the people who have nearly wrecked capitalism. Obama's "Socialist" policies are the programs that will save capitalism and put our capitalist economy back on the right track again, regardless of all the false and deceptive propaganda about "Socialism" spewing from the Rabid Right.

Do you guys even know what socialism is? Apparently not. Socialism is when the government takes money away from people who are working, and re-distributes it to others who for one reason or another need "assistance". Of course, I am not saying that we should not re-distribute to some people, military soldiers injured in the line of duty, emergency personal injured in the line of duty, people injured WHILE WORKING, those that can't work for something beyond their control, but the policies of this country to continue to provide for every need of its occupants at the expense of the rest of the citizens is TYRANNY. So yes, Obama is apparently a socialist, and you are all too blind to see that. Its unfortunate, because this country was not founded on the principles of having the government provide for you, but rather the freedom to provide for yourself - as much or as little - as the individual is capable of or strives to. That is the definition of LIBERTY and that is why this nation is obviously the best.
That’s what’s wrong with you lefties today. You name drop intelligent conservatives like Sean Hannity, and Glenn Beck, and try and make them look bad by telling lies about their ideals, and then you cram your snobbery “Liberalism” into what seems to appear an intelligent thought. But the truth is, that you watch CNN, MSNBC, or CNBC and let them tell you how to think. They feed you lies like Fox News is Bad, and CNN is good, and you eat up everything CROOKS like Nancy Pelosi, and Timothy Geitner say. The fact of the matter is, the Democrats for the most part are, and have been making the government bigger, and our Constitution less valuable. This country is heading face first into Socialism, and the Democrats are making the whole thing possible. But it’s not Socialism in a bad way. . . It’s Socialism with a “Happy face.” They are taking control of this country’s private business sector, and telling us how to live our lives. Liberals keep saying their for the people, and against big controlling governments, but then pass laws that infringe our rights given to us by our forefathers. If you really believe that we need less government, more rights to protect us, and freedom from tyranny, then maybe your closer to being a Republican then you think.
Let’s face it, this administration (Obama) is throwing money everywhere but where it should be. You have Timothy Geitner standing there with this thumb you know where, and every time he opens his mouth, the stock market plummets. Pork won’t create good honest jobs. Conservative spending, and smart decision making will help us out both short term and long term. And the left will only lead us to Fascism.
You got it Jim, its common sense. Anyone can go along with what mainstream media and Hollywood tell them to do. It takes intelligence to stand on your own two feet. The facts are on our side.

You Conservatives are like lemmings, stewing in your own propaganda, rushing merrily over the cliff while the rest of the country is now on the fast-track to economic recovery. A year from today -- when the country is up and running again, bigger and better than ever (thanks to the programs of the Obama Administration), you Conservatives will still be swilling in your own juices, still complaining because Ayn Rand is not America's Treasury Secretary and Sean Hannity is not Secretary of State.
Today's Conservatives Vs. The Founding Fathers
In 1787, when the Constitution was adopted, the the backbone of the American economy consisted of thousands of small, independent tradesmen, manufacturers and landowners. However, as the nineteenth century progressed, there was an increasing concentration of wealth in the hands of fewer and fewer people, many of whom became known as Robber Barons, including Harriman, Hill, Vanderbilt, Rockefeller, DuPont, Insull, etc. These were railroad magnates, oil magnates, industrialists and bankers.
The social legislation of the early twentieth century, instituted by Republican reformers such as Teddy Roosevelt and other "trust-busters" -- including estate taxes, progressive income taxes, etc. -- was designed to break up these dynasties, eliminate the huge concentration of wealth in the hands of a few, and restore the American economy to the more widespread distribution of wealth which existed at the time of our nation's inception.
This social legislation resulted in a slight "re-distribution of wealth", not in any attempt to bring Socialism or Communism to these shores, but rather to try and restore the kind of economy that existed at the time of our Founding Fathers -- a fairer, more equitable, more widespread distribution of America's wealth than had developed by the end of the nineteenth century.
Today's Conservatives are exactly the opposite of what they present themselves to be. Today's Conservatives favor an increasing concentration of wealth in the hands of fewer and fewer people, and they oppose any legislation that would restore the more equitable society that existed at the time of our Founding Fathers. They are diametrically opposed to the American Dream and to the economic system upon which our nation was founded. Today's Conservatives are "American Patriots" in the same way that "the wolf in sheep's clothing" was a sheep.
Lemmings CJP? I guess you are right about conservatives being like lemmings. We are misunderstood. Especially by the under-educated people who believe in myth, and hear-say, not the facts. First off, Lemmings don't jump off of cliffs. Watch Mythbusters. They’ve proved where that legend comes from, and how it got blown out of proportion dating all the way back to the 50’s.
As for Obama’s policies that’s going to get this country back on it’s feet in a year. Sorry, but the guy can’t even get anything out of the G20 Summit.
You liberals all love Obama soooo much, it’s disgusting! Here is a guy who doesn’t even hold his hand over his heart to Solute the American flag, but does a FULL bow to the Muslim King. Here is a guy who has received money from radicals like William Ayers, and Acorn. The left needs to pick some better hero’s. Maybe people who are not morally corrupt.
All Obama is doing in this Recession is throwing money like a drunken sailor. He probably thinks that if he and Biden throw enough money all around, it’s going to fix the problem. That first “Stimulous” Package “he” passed was a big fat joke. $130 Million for Climate change investigation. How is saving the trees going to create money, and jobs for this country?
It cost him 1 Billion to get into office, and he paid it all off making that first stimulus agreement. Don’t you think the people who funded his campaign are going to get the first crack at some of those sweet government jobs he’s creating?

In response to your very thoughtful comments, let me say the following:
You say that Obama "doesn't even hold his hand over his heart to Salute the American flag..." The picture you are referring to involved the singing of the Star Spangled Banner -- not saluting the flag. Go to Yankee Stadium on any fine Summer's Day, and you'll found thousands of fans who don't hold their hands over their hearts during the National Anthem. Are all these Yankee fans Un-American traitors, too?
That picture of the "FULL bow" to the Muslim King is still unclear. Was it a bow, was it reaching down to shake hands, was it protocol? Bush did far worse things in his encounters with foreign kings, especially the king of Saudi Arabia. Yet, Bush's dealings with the Saudi king don't seem to bother you.
ACORN has been accused of many things, investigated for many things, and has never been convicted of anything. I guess the real ACORN "wrong-doing" is getting out the vote for liberals and Democrats.
William Ayres and Obama hardly know each other, and haven't even met each other in years. Whatever Ayres may have done back in his Weathermen days (we don't know because he was never convicted of anything), now, thirty years later, he has a new life in which he is a highly recognized expert on education. As such, Ayres has served on various boards and committees in Chicago devoted to improving education. In that capacity, Ayres has come into contact with many Chicago civic leaders (including Obama) who are devoted to improving education. None of these other people, including Obama, was ever involved with the Weathermen, or was ever accused of committing any acts of domestic terrorism.
For you to accuse Obama of "associating" or "accepting contributions" from Ayres is merely your blindly repeating Right-Wing Sean Hannity Talking Points. You are divorced from reality.
William Ayres has gotten himself a new life. Maybe you should get yourself a new life, too, Jim.

Dear CJP,
It’s nice to talk to a liberal that knows what he’s talking about. At the end of our conversations, neither one of us is going to change our ways of viewing the world, but it’s nice to still have that other opinion.
Let’s not talk about George Walker Bush. I don’t know why the left keeps bringing him up. The reason I bring up Barrak Obama, is because he is our president. He is the important one to talk about, not George Bush. I didn’t agree with all of the things he has said or done, but now I’m focusing on our future, and what our president and congress is doing at the present.
Let’s take Obama’s 100 Million dollar spending cut in his cabinet for instance. It’s a nice gesture, but let’s face it, it’s not doing anything. Obama may have inherited a problem, but bashing the United States as “Ignorant” to the rest of the world is not helping us. I do like the program he’s trying to start by eliminating nukes, but come on. When it comes to fixing this Economy, he’s got no clue what to do. He SWORE in his Inaugural Address, as well as when he was campaigning that he wouldn’t sign a single ear-marked bill. Well, it hasn’t been six months and he’s already signed one. It’s not that I don’t agree with the bill, which I don’t. It’s that he PROMISED not to sign one, and he did.
Frankly, the left should be angry at him too. He said the first thing he would do is get our troops out of Iraq, and send them home. Well, now the most anti-war Senator in history, is asking Congress for more time in the middle east. It seems to be like the “Change” Obama was campaigning on wasn’t a change in policy, it was just a change of people. And the next thing to go is our Amendment rights. And when he tries to take my guns away, he won’t be doing it, he’ll probably ask the brave men and women fighting for our rights of freedom oversees. Or the brave men and women working as police officers to do his dirty work. But first he’ll tax bullets out of our stores, and then he’ll move in on the big kill.
Don’t even get me into Universal Healthcare! Thanks again for taking the time to read and respond to my thoughts.

Obama is not bashing the United Sates as "ignorant". He is trying to approach the rest of the world with more humility and diplomacy than Bush did, and he may achieve some good results this way. Bad guys can be turned around, as Quaddafi of Libya has been. Obama's approach may neutralize some of our other enemies, too. He's trying a different approach, and we'll have to wait and see it he has any success with it. It's the Teddy Roosevelt approach -- Carry a Big Stick But Speak
Softly. It worked for Teddy, and it may work for Barack, too.
He won't be taking your guns away. That's a Nightmare Scenario thought up by Right-Wing Talk Show hosts to inflame their listeners. Although, hopefully, Obama will help state and local governments institute stronger gun control laws. There have been too many gun murders lately --
they've gone through the roof.
Universal Health Care would be a wonderful thing. Most modern countries have it. The health care we provide for so many of our citizens lags way behind Canada and most of Europe. There's no reason
for the USA to be second-class in anything, especially health care.
I wouldn't say that Obama has no clue as to how to fix the economy. He has consulted many outstanding economists, and he is following their advice. Since his programs are just starting to go into effect, it's too early to know how effective they will be. But it makes sense to me that pouring lots of money into the economy now will help the
economy get moving again and, when there is a recovery, these bail-out dollars can be repaid to the government. Putting people back to work
right now, and solving the current foreclosure crisis are key parts of his program. I think Obama is doing what needs to be done, and that his economic policies will work.

Obama may not take guns away just yet, but he’s already trying to tax bullets by almost 600%.
And as for Universal Healthcare, come on!!! Are you serious?! I can just see it now, From the people who brought you social security, the DMV, and taxes, now they’re going to be “giving” us Universal Healthcare. As for Canada, here’s something to think about. My Uncle lives in the Upper peninsula of Michigan, and he was having chest pains, so naturally he went to the hospital. He waited an hour and a half to even see a doctor. This is because of the ongoing problem that we have near the Canadian/ American boarder. Canadians come over just to get seen in a hospital, and because we are in the U.S.A., we are obligated in seeing them. Having them get treatment in our hospitals doesn’t bother me. It’s the fact that their healthcare system is so messed up, that they’ll come over here to get adequate treatment. And Europe? That’s another failing healthcare system. The reason the U.S.A. separated from England was because they were treating their people like crap. If you like Europe so much, please don’t hesitate to move over there. You won’t see me crying if we loose a few liberals, or as they like to be called “Progressives.”
And as for President Obama, let’s face it, he’s just the pretty face that is controlled by Nancy Pelosi and here batch of Crooks. But to his credit, he has a nice smile, and the people who write his speeches do an impeccable job.

As for moving to Europe, you seem to be the one who doesn't like where the USA is heading today. The last two elections have shown that a majority of our citizens have seen the light and they agree with me.
Perhaps you are The One who should be packing your bags.

I love the fact that you didn’t respond with intelligent humor or political differences. You just ate my last entry up, and called me small minded. I mark that as a victory for my previous expressed thoughts.
Maybe you didn’t know where to begin. The fact of the matter is, most people voted for Obama and didn’t even know why. At least, the majority of the people I talked to who voted for Obama didn’t know why. Seeing the light? If that light is Socialism, than yes many people have, and are seeing the light even today.
Don’t forget, anyone who didn’t vote for Obama is a racist. This is a man who campaigned on race, and the fact that he was Change. The fact that he had absolutely no experience ten years ago has no effect on his decisions that he’s made so far. He has more people telling him what to do than anyone I’ve ever heard of. He’s a hell of a public speaker, I’ll grant you that. But that’s only when people are writing speeches for him.
As you know, yesterday, the Obama administration took sides on their first race related issue. If you don’t already know about it, you will soon hear about it. To me, it’s one of the most radical and racist decisions I have seen for quite some time. Let me know what you think. If you still don’t know what I’m talking about, I’ll give you a clue… It happened in New Haven Connecticut with some firefighters. One last clue. It’s kind of Reverse Racism.
