Where is your source on that one?
I like Obama. Clinton was ok also. W and Palin suck as much as any politician I have ever heard suck before. Ever. Plus Palin is really dumb.
The Jungle is a 1906 novel written by author and socialist journalist Upton Sinclair. Sinclair wrote this novel to highlight the plight of the working class and to remove from obscurity the corruption of the American meatpacking industry during the early 20th century. The novel depicts in harsh tones the poverty, absence of social programs, unpleasant living and working conditions, and hopelessness prevalent among the working class, which is contrasted with the deeply rooted corruption on the part of those in power. The sad state of turn-of-the-century labor is placed front and center for the American public to see, suggesting that something needed to be changed to get rid of American "wage slavery"

Cons, try reading the book "The Jungle". I read it 20+ years ago and wikipedia above synopsis is pretty accurate. You will see the need for unions, at least in the past (maybe not today though). It could happen again, if you cons ever got your way and eliminated all regulation and minimum wage.

I agree that there was a time when we needed unions, but that time has come and gone! Unions have to much power now and they are the ones beating up on employers.
Why do we have unions members on strike during a recession? Shouldnt they just be happy they have a job? Why was Boeings machinists striking a year ago? Was $25-35/hr and all their benifits not enough? Are they really hurting?
Unions works are over paid and increasing the costs to the rest of us! I am not saying they need to take pay cuts, just oust the unions or give employers new powers over them.

I agree BB, and I am thinking about the auto makers and the recent bailout, and the average compensation of 70.00 per hour. Too much for assembly line work. Wages for some have gone to far, because world conditions have changed.
The biggest advantage unions did have works back in the day, was to create a safe work envinonment. L&I more than covers that area now! What do you think auto works would get paid without the unions? 15-30/hr?

I hear any new US auto factory, like Toyota, the average is around 15. Not sure if the 15 is just salary or ? I agree BB, 70 per hour is too much for what they do.

Keep in mind that non-union workers also benefit due to the unions hard struggle for higher wages, a 48 hour work week, safety, vacation etc. in the workplace.
You can be VERY thankful to them!!
If unions would disappear now, work conditions would turn back to the same deplorable inhuman conditions as they were a century+ ago.
Keep in mind that employers DO have all the powers they want/need, so no need to give employers new powers. Employers can move to any other state or country if they don't like where they are operating. (which they've already been doing for at least 2 decades when e.g. GM was making a 4Billion profit. They closed many plants in the USA and moved to Mexico to make an additional 200 million profit.)
Time will tell if Obama will be the Savviest Politician of our Time.
He likes to weigh the pro's and con's and thus consider him much smarter than GDubya Bush. Smarter than McCain who RAN (while campaigning) to the WH to help bailout those poor souls of Wall Street.
Sad that Obama has to pick up the pieces of the previous presidency of GDubya.

I am not going to jump to any conclusions on that topic. Are tempetures increasing, yes! Is it because of man, I dont know. There isnt enough information to make that call yet. If you think its real then go and buy some carbon credits, so you can sleep better at night. Al Gore would love your money, hes getting pretty darn rich off of global warming.

I dont recieve higher wages from unions, I dont know what you mean by a 48hr work week and I dont recieve vacation because of a union.
My employer respects and treats his employees very well. When the company is doing well, we all share in the profits (profit sharing).
I know my employer makes a six figure income and I dont make any where near that much. It also doesnt make me angree because he is the one taking all the risks.
Why do you liberals want to punish him for making a good living for him and his family? (TAXES)

Can't argue about the majority of Americans like Obama because he won the election and is my President. But the truth is starting to show. He ran as a moderate. Apparently he knows thats how you win. Now he runs the country as a liberal. Now the majority is against his policies. Example: one would think that with Democrats in charge of the house and senate, he would have no problem with passing the health care bill. Blue dog democrats have stopped him cold. They know that the majority of Americans are against this. Savviest? I'm not so sure anymore.

The majority of Americans already did, and they can hardly wait to do it again.
Obama's margin of victory will be bigger in 2012 than it was in 2008 -- when he was relatively unknown. Just like FDR's numbers in 1936 were much greater than they were in 1932.

That last poll I say showed that more Americans would vote for Mitt Romney that Obama.

Obama won because he was an unknown and Mccain was a fake Republican. The problem with Obama winning a re-election is that Americans know him know. He can't run as a moderate like he did in 2008. Fool me once but fool me twice...?

He won the democrat and indepent vote by running as a moderate.
He won the black vote by being black
Now he is losing the indepentants vote, who really decide elections.

I don't think comments like these are helpful. I'm sure there were just as many whites, if not more, who voted for Mccain because he is white. Race shouldn't be the issue. A black man won the election and I applaud the American people for the breakthrough. The issues are bad policies that will bankrupt this country in the end.

What you don't realize is that 98% of blacks still equal less than 15% of whites. Whites put Obama in office when you do the math. I'm not afraid to talk about race when it is warranted. In this case you had John Mccain stop his campaign to start an unpopular stimulus program. That started his downfall and being a RINO finished him. To Obama's credit, he had to be pulled away for the same stimulus program.

Whites and most of the rest of Americans were split during the election. Blacks represent about 12% of the American population. So when you add that 12% to Obamas votes he wins!

The 12% of blacks came mostly from the blue states and a democrat was going to win them anyway. Remember that the election system is based on the electoral college and not the number of votes. Red states with a relatively small population of blacks voted for Obama and helped him in this historic win. I don't agree with his policies but I refuse to tarnish his election. I just want to make sure he is a 1 term president.
It makes sense, I will check into what states he won, compared to red or blue states. Good point!

Of course, Obama won the black vote overwhelmingly. Blacks are mostly Democrats to begin with, plus they justifiably had lots of racial pride in achieving this historic breakthrough.
However, if all Obama had was the Black vote, he would have lost overwhelmingly. Other Black candidates have run in the past, such as Jesse Jackson, and they haven't even come close. Obama got a huge number of white votes, and that's what put him way over the top.
