Palin Says Canada Should Drop Public Health Care

At a recent stop on her "Going Rogue" book tour, Sarah Palin told Canadian comedian Mary Walsh that Canada should get rid of its public health care system.
Walsh is the co-creator and star of This Hour Has 22 Minutes -- a nightly news parody show in the same vein as The Daily Show -- and she arrived in character, as the conservative Marg Delahunty, to the Borders where Palin (the "Alaskan Aphrodite") was signing books.
"I just wanted to ask you if you have any words of encouragement for Canadian conservatives who have worked so hard to try to diminish the kind of socialized medicine we have up there." Walsh shouted to Palin as she approached the table.
Palin's handlers tried to help her by ushering Walsh out of the Borders, but Palin could not be deterred. When Palin left the signing, Walsh caught up with her in the parking lot, where Palin suggested that Canada should get rid of its public health care system. "Keep the faith" Palin said, "because common sense conservatism can be plugged in there in Canada too. In fact, Canada needs to reform its health care system and let the private sector take over some of what the government has absorbed."
Raw Story points out that it is unlikely this plan will go over well among Canadians -- even among conservatives.
A recent study found that 90 percent of Canadians support universal, single-payer health care. A poll taken last summer shows 82 percent of Canadians believe their health care system to be better than the US's, despite constant grumbling about waiting times for treatment of non-life-threatening conditions.

Yes, I agree, our health care is better than the US's although there may be a waiting list for surgery for certain non life threatening conditions.

Absolutely. For instance, the ideology of cons is completely out of sync. They hate and look down on poor people yet hire people to work for them for as little as they can get away with. Then hate the poor even more for not being able to purchase health care insurance. Logical thinking of them eh?
Of course then there are the poor cons who are wannabe cons and would love to be accepted by the established cons. But in reality they never will be.

Look at the stats in this link about minimum wages in each state. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._minimum_wages
Think of Walmart etc., small business owners, service industries. Small business owners supply jobs for the majority of Americans. The USA is turning in a mainly service industry where pay is low. Manufacturing outsourced. Good paying service jobs outsourced to India.
Now calculate what the cost of health insurance is per month and calculate the monthly minimum wages. Don't forget that many of these minimum wage earners are breadwinners of their families.
If you think that those people can afford to buy health insurance you're living on a cloud.
Backwards. The democrats have brainwashed the poor into believing that they should hate the rich. What libs don't realize or don't want to realize is that the "poor" wouldn't have anything if it weren't for the rich. I can only speak about the poor from the Bronx. These "poor" people had more food in the refrigerator than I as a working person did, they had better cell phones with all kinds of extras that I could not pay for, they had more jewelry than I could afford, they (believe or not)had better access to health care than I did because everything was free for them and they have their rent and other bills paid for them. "Poor" people from other countries would look at the "poor" from the USA with confusion but with admiration. Whether libs don't want to understand is that the government doesn't have a bottomless pit full of money. They take it from the people they love to hate (the working rich) and give it to the people they want to keep on a lower level to remove all motivation and desire for a better life. This my friends, I speak from experience. Not from watching CNN 24 hours a day.

Why would they care about a country such as the USA with its measly 300 million since there is a huge market of billions of people to whom they can sell their goods and services?

Assuming Richardson initially declined medical care here as well, once she did present to caregivers that she was suffering from a possible head trauma, she would’ve been immediately transported by air, weather permitting, and arrived in Denver in less than an hour. If this weren’t possible, in both resorts she would’ve been seen within 15 minutes at a local facility with CT scanning and someone who could perform temporary drainage until transfer to a neurosurgeon was possible. If she were conscious at 4 p.m., she most likely would have been diagnosed and treated about that time, receiving care unavailable in the local Canadian hospital. She might still have died or suffered brain damage but her chances of surviving would have been much greater in the U.S.

One of my sisters lives in Oregon. Says that the number of Canadian drivers is amazing because they come here for healthcare that isn't provided (in a timely manner) in Canada.

Anon2, how long do you have to wait for health care in Canada?
There is nothing in the proposed US Health Care Plan that would reduce the number of CT scanners now available in US hospitals, or eliminate helicopter evacuation services that now exist. The US plan is designed to cover millions of uninsured Americans, and provide better services than today, not worse ones.
If there are aspects of Canadian health services that are not as good as ours, it is the Canadians who will be looking to improve their services, not the US trying to reduce our services to inferior levels.
