U.S. Ambassador Dissents on Afghan Troop Increase
The U.S. ambassador in Kabul sent two classified cables to Washington in the last week expressing deep concerns about sending more U.S. troops to Afghanistan until Afghan President Hamid Karzai’s government demonstrates that it is willing to tackle the corruption and mismanagement that has fueled the Taliban’s rise, said senior U.S. officials.
(Hey, it must be real easy to be president and make the snap decision to rush 42,000 more US troops to Afghanistan overnight).

I think if we are going to fight this war then Obama should go all in. If we don't want to fight this war then pull everyone out. It makes no sense to keep them there like sitting ducks.

Snap decision?!? What does that mean?? It's been 3 months since the generals request!!
I say pull all the troops out. You can't fight religious nuts. I am against Obama on this one. But Obama will have to persevere as the cons will call him weak on defense. GD cons.
I can't make that decision. I don't know all the facts. Neither do most other people -- not even General McCrystal (for whom I have the highest personal regard and admiration).
I would say that our president has more access to all the facts than anyone else does. I agree that Obama is taking a lot of time on this matter. I can only hope he ultimately makes the right decision.
Personally, I would like to see us defeat Al Quaida and the Taliban, and wipe them off the face of the Earth. They are both very evil, if you ask me. But, if Karzai's regime is so corrupt, then that's a huge, almost insurmountable problem.
In the past, we lost China and Vietnam to the Communists because the regimes we were supporting were corrupt and did not have the support of the people. I would love us to win in Afghanistan, but how can we do that without
an Afghan government the local people support?
The Karzai regime is one of Obama's toughest problems. He wants us to win in Afghanistan, but he doesn't want us to be enmeshed in another
Viet Nam. Now, if our own Afghan ambassador is going against General McCrystal's request, that makes things more complicated than ever.
Right now, I'm just waiting to see what Obama's decision will be. But don't think it's such a simple choice.
Actually, HOTR, you CAN fight religious nuts. You can fight them , and defeat them-- and we should. What we can't fight is our friends, our "allies".
In baseball, you can beat the other team. But, if you have a double play combination, and your shortstop isn't covering second base when the throw comes, then, what chance do you have?
Unfortunately, in Afghanistan, Karzai is our missing shortstop -- gone AWOL when we need him the most.

CJP, how can we fight those nuts when they can spend 100 million on flying a few planes into buildings and we spend 3 trillion paying them back? We are going bankrupt, as Osama Bin Laden said was his intent shortly after 9/11.
While we ponder all the possibilities, we forget that American troops have been dying for the last 3 months the general has asked for more help. Can you imagine having a riot outside your window and the chief of police doesn't send reinforcements because he's thinking. I don't think so. You send help and keep thinking about what to do. Sacrificing our troops was an issue because Obama didn't want to rile the left before the elections.

After all, no country could win the war, not even Russia with over 100.000 troops there.
I'd pull out all troops, send specialists in secret to get Osama Bin Laden & Al Qaeda, where ever they are, Pakistan or Afghanistan. No sense in trying to win a tribal/civil war that has been going on since the stone age.

Thanks, send me the recipes instead. I love rice and beans, and have around 250 lbs of them, ready for the bad days (supposed to last 10 years +). I live in WA, so real food may not ship that well.

You can't get more nonsensical than the above lib talking point. He would get a trial. The same trial we give to people who commit acts of war against our country. The kind that the military should be in charge of. The libs are dying to give our military secrets away. All just to say how bad Bush is.

How do you expect a defense lawyer put together a defense without all the information. Immediate cause for mistrial.
CJP, a defense lawyer has a right to all the information the prosecutor has.
