Economy sheds fewest jobs since 2007

WASHINGTON - Buoyed by an unexpectedly encouraging jobs report, President Obama turned his full focus on the economy Friday, vowing to combat "the gut punch of a pink slip."

Job losses fell to the lowest level since 2006, and the Labor Department reported the unemployment rate actually dipped to 10%, when many officials, including Obama, expected it to worsen.

"This is good news, just in time for the season of hope," a rejuvenated Obama declared to workers and business owners in Allentown, Pa. "I've got to admit my chief economist, Christy Romer, she got about four hugs when she handed us the report."

Caught by surprise, Obama and his aides scrambled to rewrite the Allentown speech because of the surprising unemployment data.

"There are going to be some months where the reports are a little better, some months where the reports are worse, but the trend line right now is good. The direction is clear," Obama said.

He will work this weekend on a speech he will deliver Tuesday outlining what Congress should include in a new jobs bill.

Obama is considering using unspent Wall Street bailout money to help put Americans back to work, but Republicans are already sniping at that idea.

Cons want Obama to fail.

Isn't it telling that w's ridiculous beliefs about trickle down and less regulation, and implemented widely, failed miserably, and Obamas half hearted measures, due to con obstruction, seem to be working?

Let's spend some more Obama. Show them you can spend like a con. The cons have been spending wildly for years, and braying about fiscal responsibility at the same time. Sounds like cons are the party of do as I say, not as I do.

"Cons want Obama to fail."

Not only that, from their sniping one can draw the conclusion that the cons want America (the people) to fail. They don't want jobs for the Americans, only for themselves. Let them rot eh? Guess that way you really cannot call the cons Americans, can you?

BB, your buddy Beck.

"Beck, who has taken to comparing the state of the U.S. economy to that of modern day Zimbabwe or pre-Hitler Germany, has been urging his viewers to invest in gold, and bragging about his own gold investments since at least last year.

“I know that you’ve been listening and watching my shows,” he said in a promo incorporated into a “Beck talks” video on his website.

“If you’ve been watching for any length of time, and you still haven’t looked into buying gold, what’s wrong with you? I was going to say ‘are you just a reporter for the New York Times?’ but I don’t think they actually watch. They just write about it.

“I think you’re nuts. When the system eventually collapses, and the government comes with guns and confiscates, you know, everything in your home and all your possessions, and then you fight off the raving mad cannibalistic crowds that Ted Turner talked about, don’t come crying to me. I told you: get gold.”
