Thawed

A man found a huge block of ice. Frozen inside that block of ice was an adorable little pussycat. The man thought to himself: "I must rescue that pussy cat and bring it back to life." The Obamas are personally paying the expenses of re-decorating the White House out-of-pocket. They are not using any of the $100,000 in taxpayer dollars which are allocated to new presidents for White House renovations. Can you imagine George W. I think you'll find that, historically, liberals and progressives have
been just as staunch as conservatives in defending this country
and our individual rights. People of every political and religious
persuasion, including atheists, have served valiantly in our Armed
Forces over the years -- whether or not they "tote guns" every day in
civilian life.

The issue today, however, is a different one. When George Bush came
into office eight years ago, the United States was more prosperous,
more powerful, and more universally respected than it had ever been in
its entire existence. Eight years later, when Bush left office, the
US economy was on the verge of collapse. Banks, investment companies, the housing industry, the auto industry -- all were teetering on the precipice.

The question today is how to fix it. No one wants to institute
Socialism or Communism. That's simply a figment of some
conservatives' imaginations (or hallucinations). Can the economy be
rescued just by tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans? Bush tried that
for eight years, and the results have been disastrous.

Obama is trying a different approach -- massive stimulus and spending
programs to pour large amounts of money into the system and get our
economy jump-started again. The stock market seems to like Obama's
policies, since it has now been rising steadily as Obama's programs
begin to take shape. Investors realize that Obama's goal is to save
capitalism -- not to introduce any other "ism" into America.

As for control, well, if companies like General Motors and some major
banks and insurance companies can only survive through a massive
bailout with taxpayer dollars, then the government has a right, indeed
a responsibility, to make sure that these taxpayer dollars are applied
wisely in the public interest, not just shelled out for huge officers'
bonuses and costly vacation junkets.

As for the People keeping the Power, there is not much power the
people can keep when you have massive unemployment, low-paying jobs, and a malfunctioning economy. What kind of power are you talking about? The power of being homeless or on welfare?

Limbaugh Wants to "Maintain the America of our Founding"

Rush Limbaugh says that Obama's failure is the only hope we have "to maintain the America of our founding". When Rush talks about "the only hope we've got to maintain the America of our founding", he is referring to the two things he liked most about "the America of our founding" -- the perpetuation of slavery, and the Constitutional definition of a black man as 3/5 of a person. That's "the America of our founding" which Rush most admires and which he would most like to maintain. He's also ready to flee New York so he can avoid paying any New York State income taxes. What a truly Great American Rush Limbaugh is.

Tax Day Tea Parties

These Republican Tax Day Tea Parties are a lot less like the American Revolution's Boston Tea Party, and much more like the Tea Party in Alice In Wonderland.

How can Republicans claim they are victims of "Taxation Without Representation"? There was an election, they voted -- and they lost. Who is to blame if fewer and fewer Americans want Republicans to represent them?

Now, the Alice In Wonderland Tea Party -- that's much more on point. There, you had a Mad Hatter, a Dormouse, Alice -- all sitting around, sipping tea and pontificating -- making wise, profound, extremely logical comments, like "I See What I Eat means the same thing as I Eat What I See"; and "I Breathe When I Sleep has the same meaning as I Sleep When I Breathe".

Clearly, the logic of the Alice In Wonderland Tea Party is the same as the logic of our current Republican Party and its Tax Day Tea Parties.

9. Rush deceives his Dittohead followers into supporting tax policies that are radically skewed in favor of America's Top 2% and against the financial interests of the Dittoheads. Very few Dittoheads earn over $250,000 a year, or have estates in excess of $10,000,000. Yet, Rush persuades his Dittoheads to vote for income and estate tax policies that favor the Super Rich -- helping the Rich Grow Richer -- while irreparably harming people who earn less than $250,000 a year, which includes virtually all of his Dittoheads. Rush convinces them to vote against their own economic interests by using sly propaganda phrases like the "Death Tax" instead of the "Estate Tax". It's not a tax on Dying -- it's a tax on large Estates. Rush earns millions by selling his Dittoheads down the river, where he has sold them many a Brooklyn Bridge. Rush is the Dittoheads' own special Fifth Columnist and Trojan Horse.

10. Rush is a White Racist. Virtually every time he tells a "joke", it is a racial putdown of blacks, Hispanics or some other minority. Deliberately confusing the names of "Barack Obama" and Rush's fictional African leader, "Barack Ogabe", is the latest example. Or, opining that the media gave football Quarterback, Donovan McNab, "a lot of credit he doesn't deserve" simply because he is black (although McNab led his team to two championships in his first three seasons with the NFC).

11. Rush is against Feminists. His favorite word is "Feminazi". We know that Rush is an enemy of the Little Guy. But he's against the Little Woman, too.

12. Rush firmly believes in the Golden Rule: "Them that's Got the Gold Makes the Rules."

13. Rush wants America to Fail. Rush would rather see America fail than to have Barack Obama save the USA by applying Liberal programs, such as stimulus packages for financial institutions and the auto industry, massive government deficit spending, increased government regulation of the financial markets, broader health care coverage, tax breaks for the middle class and tax increases for the wealthy, etc. We have seen the Conservative policies of massive tax cuts for the rich and de-regulation of the markets bring America to the brink of Depression. Yet, Rush's only prescription is more of the same. Rush is a narrow-minded ideologue who would rather see America fail through the continued application of failed Conservative policies than to see the country revived through the institution of Liberal ideas.

Rush and Barack Ogabe

Rush Limbaugh's puny racist "joke", in which he confused the names of Barack Obama and Barack Ogabe (a mythical African leader) -- a play on the names of Barack Obama and Robert Mugabe -- and referring to "his angry wife", was strictly a piece of red meat Rush was throwing to his white racist Dittoheads. Rush is not the problem. The problem is that our airwaves today are filled with Right Wing racist ranters like Limbaugh and so many others who are flooding our airwaves with misinformation, ignorance and intolerance. These Far Right Denizens of the Media are steadily turning the USA into a Banana Republic.

Rush and His Dumboheads

The only people who take Rush seriously anymore are his Dumbed-Down Herd of Dumboheads. Dumbo, of course, was the adorable Disney Flying Elephaant. The Market Has Tanked Since Obama Took Office?

If the market has tanked since the day Obama took office, that's because so much more of the garbage which Bush's policies had infused into the economic system has come to light since Bush is gone. If the market is starting to stabilize and move back up, it's because investors recognize that Obama is trying to repair the economy and not run the country into the ground, concerned only with how much money he can steal for himself, his family, and his oil cronies. Bill O'Reilly vs. Seymour Hersh on "Cheney's Assassination Squads"

Investigative reporter Seymour Hersh said in a recent speech that Dick Cheney was in charge of an "Executive Assassination Crew" operating out of the White House. Bill O'Reilly immediately countered with the statement that, if this were true, then liberal reporters like Seymour Hersh would already have been assassinated.

However, assassination squads run out of the White House usually operate in foreign countries, generally by the CIA. They are not known for assassinating American journalists working in the USA, whether they be Seymour Hersh or Bill O’Reilly. Between Hersh and O’Reilly, however — Hersh is a million times more reliable and truthful. If Hersh says that Cheney operated an “executive assassination crew” out of the White House, then attention must be paid. More often than not, Hersh turns out to be right. Contrary to Bill O'Reilly's assertion, “Executive Assassination” doesn’t normally include American journalists or reporters. But, who knows? The new Obama Administration may change that policy, Bill. They're from Chicago, you know.

I loved Heath Ledger. For Heath and Rush to have to hang out in Hell together for Eternity -- doing lines or otherwise -- would really be Hell for Heath. Rush would love it. Maybe if Rush's cellmate -- or Hellmate -- were Bernard Madoff -- that would be a fitting companion for Rush. Who has done more damage to the American people than Madoff and Limbaugh? And, Rush is still at it -- going strong.

After Voting No, Republicans Take Credit For Stimulus Projects

I hope that whoever runs against these hypocritical Republicans in 2010 shouts it loud and clear to the voters of the district that this particular Republican voted against the Stimulus Package and that, had this Republican's vote prevailed, the district would have received no money and no benefits. Any Republican who voted against Obama's Stimulus Package should be retired in 2010 -- it's the worst thing he could have done to his constituents.

Jackie Mason Calls Obama a "Schwarze"

Jackie Mason likes the word "schwartze". He used it concerning Mayor David Dinkins of New York City in the 1990's, and now he's using it again regarding President Obama. Jackie does not mean to be offensive. In Yiddish, "schwarze' simply means "black" -- or it could refer to "a black person". In Yiddish, the word is not a racial slur. Jackie is trying tto be cute and endearing when he says "schwartze", not demeaning. When President Obama said that his lack of bowling skills belonged in the Special Olympics, he was not trying to offend anyone competing in the Special Olympics, and likewise Jackie Mason is not using the word "schwarze" as a putdown of Obama, Dinkins or any other black person. Jackie is a comedian, not a racist. As Senator Claghorn (Kenny Delmar) used to say to Fred Allen during the Golden Age of Comedy: "That's a Joke, Son, It's a Joke. Sarah Palin is back in her rightful element -- her comfort zone. With Obama's "Special Olympics" joke, Sarah believes she has found a new "Gotcha! -- Pallin' Around With Terrorists Moment". This matter has been very overblown. Obama was trying to make a joke about himself -- about his own lack of skill at bowling. The studio audience took it that way, and laughed at his joke. I doubt if it even occurred to Obama when he made this remark that it could be taken to refer to people in the Special Olympics rather than to himself.

In a March 15 article about the upcoming Supreme Court case centered on the Citizens United-produced film Hillary: The Movie, The Washington Post identified the group's president, David Bossie, only as "a former congressional aide whose battles with the Clinton administration are legendary."

However, Bossie was reportedly fired as a congressional staffer in 1998 for his role in releasing misleadingly edited transcripts that gave the false impression former Clinton administration official Webster Hubbell had implicated then-first lady Hillary Clinton in wrongdoing.

Bossie was fired in 1998 from his job as chief investigator for the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform -- which was investigating alleged Clinton White House campaign finance abuses -- for his role in releasing selectively edited transcripts of Hubbell's prison conversations, which omitted comments by Hubbell indicating that Clinton had done nothing wrong.

Affirmative Action Programs

I don't think minorities are "genetically incapable of succeeding on their own merit and intellect". People who support affirmative action programs don't believe that at all. If any of that were true, then affirmative action programs would be pointless since these programs are based on the assumption that minority members are capable of succeeding, if given the chance to do so.

Affirmative action programs are an attempt by our government and our schools to even the playing field. For many years, Ivy League schools were an Old Boys' Network, open to the sons of the wealthy, the well-connected, and influential alumni. Affirmative action programs came along as an effort to recruit minorities to these prestigious schools and to reverse many years of racial exclusion.

The results have been amply justified. I'm pretty sure that both Clarence Thomas and Barack Obama were admitted to top Ivy League schools as a result of affirmative action programs. Certainly, thousands of other people were, and most of them have gone on to lead very successful and productive lives. A great many of these folks would not have gotten their foot in the door in the first place, without affirmative action programs. These programs work. In the wise and ancient words of wisdom of yore (and mine): " If it ain't broke, don't break it!"

I respect your beliefs, and I admire how well you present them, but I must take issue with many of the things you say in your post.

First of all, Al Gore may have made an issue of Dukakis' Furlough Program in the primaries, before Bush ever did, but I don't believe that Al Gore circulated to all corners of this nation a photo of Willie Horton, the scary black man, to make his point. That was strictly Bush League. If Dukakis' Furlough Program was so bad, there surely would have been some whites who committed crimes while on furlough. Why wasn't the photo of a white man used? Why was it a scary black man? What point was Bush trying to make, and to whom was he trying to make this point? Leave us not be so naive.

Second, many blacks in recent years have benefited from affirmative action programs. Take Clarence Thomas and Barack Obama, to name but two. The difference between these two folks, however, is night and day. Obama would like to continue and expand affirmative action programs so that other minority members can receive the same benefits he did to help them build better futures for themselves. Clarence Thomas, by contrast, wants to close the door on affirmative action so that no other minority member can receive benefits similar to those that helped him succeed in our society. Which of these two gentlemen do you find more admirable?

Social programs do not keep people dependent and impoverished. Social programs, such as affirmative action, help lift people out of poverty and make them independent. "A Traitor to His Race" is a very fitting term for someone who opposes government programs that help members of his race, and other minorities, to get ahead. "A Traitor to the American Dream" works, too.

Third, is what happened before 1965 ancient history? Let's see. In 1946, Harry Truman integrated the Armed Forces for the very first time, and in 1948 Truman placed four very powerful Civil Rights planks into the Democratic platform. The result? In 1948, most of the Southern states bolted from the Democratic Party and formed the Dixiecrat Party which nominated Strom Thurmond for the presidency. Left-Wingers also left the Democratic party and supported Henry Wallace for president on the new Progressive Party. With the Democratic Party split into three parts, itr was no wonder that Harry Treuman was an odds-on Underdog to lose in 1948 to Republican Tom Dewey. By some miracle, Truman won. The Solid South remained with the Democratic Party, and none of Truman's Civil Rights legislation was ever passed.

However, twenty years later, in 1965, Lyndon Johnson picked up the torch from Truman, and from JFK, and passed the most sweeping Civil Rights legislation since Reconstruction away back in the 1860's. By 1968, Nixon had adopted his Southern Strategy and all the white racists were sucked, as by a huge vacuum cleaner, out of the Democratic Party and into the Republican Party, where they have remained, like contented cows, ever since.

An Obama Trifecta

If, in fact, Obama's budget is "a liberal's dream of a new New Deal", and constitutes "Conservatism's Worst Nightmare", and has caused the Republican Party to engage in "brainless rejectionism", then I loudly congratulate President Obama. He has hit the Trifecta. Obama has come up with A Great Budget -- and he has gotten three for the price of one.

Not Long For This World

The GOP is hell-bent on committing suicide. Every time Michael Steele makes a sensible comment -- such as criticizing Rush Limbaugh, or saying that abortion should be a matter of "individual choice", or saying something nice about gays -- he gets his head handed to him. The one thing Steele has been extremely successful at is in drawing the GOP snakes out from under their rocks and having them spit their hell-fire and brimstone at him. Steele has been a lightning rod for Republican flame-throwers. He keeps goading the GOP base into trumpeting their true colors to the rest of America. At this rate -- "Ah, these Republicans, I fear they're not long for this world".

Conservatives are Capitalism's Worse Enemy

I am very much For Capitalism. Conservatives are Capitalism's Worst Enemy. Conservatives keep destroying Capitalism every few years, through their insatiable greed and their narrow, short-sighted economic policies. Time and again, Liberals have to rescue Capitalism from the Jaws of Conservatism. FDR did it in the 1930"s, and Obama is doing it again in today's near-replay of the thirties.

Is The Republican Party Racist?

In 1965, Lyndon Johnson pushed the Voting Rights Act and other civil rights legislation through Congress -- true, with some Republican support. But, thereafter, the parties switched sides on civil rights. Nixon embraced a Southern Strategy, with all sorts of coded racist images, and Johnson had lost the South for the Democratic Party. The South was still Solid but, from then on, for Republicans, not for Democrats. Images like the Willie Horton ad, which Bush the First used so successfully in 1988 against Dukakis, have helped the GOP keep the South and win the White House. It hasn't changed. There are still many white racists in the USA. Most of them are with the Republican Party, not the Democrats. What happened before 1965 is ancient history -- everything turned around in the 1968 election. Whether or not the Republican Party itself is racist, the GOP still provides racists with a comfortable home.

Is Obama Engaging in Old-Fashioned Partisanship?

Since the economy was in free-fall in the last Quarter of 2008, it is a statement of fact that Obama took office in the midst of a terrible recession which will take time to turn around. It is not mere partisanship to state the economic facts as Obama found them when he took office , and to say that his new programs will not turn the economy around overnight. When Obama says that Bush's policies helped bring about this very bad recession, he is justifying the need to change direction and implement his own very different policies. Is Obama engaging in mere "partisanship", or is he explaining why the country needs to move in a new direction?

The banks seem to be telling us that the Obama Economy is beginning to replace the Bush economy. Once again, Liberalism has chased out Conservatism in order to ride to the rescue of Capitalism.

Coleman vs. Franken in Minnesota

As long as Al Franken cannot get seated, Coleman and the Republicans win. Their goal is to keep Obama away from 60 Senate Democratic seats for as long as possible. Coleman and the GOP would drag this contest out until the 2010 election, if they could.

My Rabbi on Rush

I asked my Brooklyn Rabbi for his honest opinion of Rush Limbaugh. As a Man of the Cloth, my Rabbi calmly responded with his customary Wise Words of Wisdom, in his Fair and Balanced way, saying:

"Rush Limbaugh is a "shtick dreck" whose opinions aren't worth "bupkis". Why this "ohngeshtupteh vantz" should have the head of the Republican Party kissing his "tukhess" is a question that's above my pay grade. Rush is a "tseckrokhener, tzebisiner, narisheh trumbenick" -- and a "meeskeit". He's also a "meshugeneh kvetch", a "paskudnyak" and a "nudnick." The GOP Road To Ruin

Obama's programs are already starting to get the country back on track, as the rising stock market this week is beginning to show. Eight years of disastrous Bush policies -- huge tax cuts for the rich, massive de-regulation, lack of financial oversight, rigid Right-Wing ideology -- have almost bankrupted America. We are now on the Road to Recovery and the Republican Party is on the Road to Ruin.

Republican Wedge Issues

The Republican Party's positions against women's reproductive choice, against gay marriage or civil unions, and in continually promoting Wedge Issues, are three more reasons why the GOP will be wandering in the wilderness for many years to come. The GOP's entire focus is on issues that divide and weaken America rather than those which unite and strengthen our nation. As shown in the last two elections, most Americans have by now seen through the GOP's pathetic charade. Hasta La Vista, Baby.

A Plague of Locusts

Republicans claim that Obama is "The Messiah". I guess that must make Bush the "Evil Pharoah". What about the Ten Plagues?
We clearly are suffering from one of them -- the plague of Locusts swarming all over our land. Our buzzing Locusts have names -- Limbaugh, Hannity, Savage, Coulter, Malkin, etc. Not to mention Glenn Beck. With these Locusts devouring our nation, the other nine plagues are superfluous.

Replace Michael Steele?

The GOP should replace Michael Steele as RNC Chairman with a confirmed White Racist, who is staunchly anti-gay and anti-choice. That's the real face of the Republican Party. It's called Truth In Advertising.

The Obama 2012 Landslide

Just as FDR was elected by a much bigger margin in 1936 than he was in 1932, the same will happen with Obama in 2012 once the American people have had a chance to watch Obama do his stuff over the next four years.

Earmarks and Obama's Spending Bill

Of course, Obama was right to sign this "admittedly imperfect bill". His main priority was to get the bill enacted, and putting those earmarks in the bill was the price he had to pay to get the 60 votes necessary to pass this legislation. He had to satisfy those few Senators who provided the key swing votes to enact the spending bill. However, by far the most important thing Obama said today has hardly been mentioned by any of the pundits or commentators. Obama said that the earmarks represent "roughly 1% of this bill -- $7 billion out of $491 billion -- yet they occupy 99% of the discussion." That's a highly crucial point. Obama gave up a small amount of ground in order to get this vital package enacted. He also announced that, like The Terminator, he will be back later to institute some pretty sweeping earmark reforms.

I Believe In Obama

According to Obama, the only people who will be in a higher tax bracket under his plan are those earning over $250,000 a year. If you earn less than $250,000 a year, your tax rate will either go down or will stay the same. So says Obama.

What business people really need is a healthy economy, regardless of their tax rate. If the economy is healthy, they will make lots of money, even if their tax rate is a little higher. Obama's programs aim to strengthen our economy in the long run. I think they will work -- although we may soon need an additional Stimulus Package. I believe Obama is on the right track, and that the country and our economy will be in much better shape after his programs have been enacted and are in effect.

I believe that Obama will be re-elected overwhelmingly in 2012 because, by that time, his programs will have worked successfully and the whole country will be much better off than it is today.

Ayn Rand and 2009

Ayn Rand was talking about the problems of Soviet Communism as put in place by Lenin who was creating a new Socialist system in Russia at the time of her writings. (Of course, I'm not sure how healthy was the Czarist economic system of capitalism which preceded Soviet Communism -- especially considering that Russia got its butt kicked by little Japan in 1903, and was being knocked out of World War I by Germany in 1916). Even so, Ayn was not dealing with government intervention to save capitalism when the free market laissez-faire Conservative system spins totally out of control. FDR did not create Socialism or Communism in the USA. He did spread the wealth (beyond the few at the top) and he put the American capitalist system back on a healthy path to recovery. Today, Obama comes into office confronted with a Bush "Near-Depression" (similar to the Depression that faced FDR), and he is once again using massive government intervention to pull the economy out of its tailspin. If Ayn Rand was truly a champion of capitalism, then FDR and Obama would be her heroes. They saved, and are saving, capitalism. The Right-Wing calls Obama "The Messiah". I guess that makes Bush sort of an Evil Pharoah, and "The Messiah" has now arrived in the nick of time.

Axis Sally and Tokyo Rose 2009

During World War II, if Axis Sally and Tokyo Rose had been broadcasting from the USA, FDR and the White House would certainly have called them out and responded to them by name. Back then, of course, Sally was forced to broadcast from Berlin, and Rose from Tokyo. Today, however, the United States has hundreds of outlets for subversive broadcasters, like Rush Limbaugh, who are doing their best to destroy America's capitalist system. Their extreme views --huge tax cuts for the rich, financial de-regulation, etc. -- which were put into place by the Bush administration, have virtually destroyed our economy. Now, Rush, Hannity, Savage, Malkin, etc., continue to broadcast far and wide their extremist views in an effort to stop Obama from rescuing the economy. At the very least, Obama and his staff have every right to call these people out and respond to them by name. Yesterday, the market went up by nearly 400 points. That may be a leading indicator that our country is finally starting to move away from the Bush economy into the Obama economy.

Dear Thom: Your example is based upon a faulty premise. Your example assumes that I earned $10,000,000 this year. However, since we all now live under the Limbaugh-Bush system of Casino Capitalism, the decks are stacked so much against you and me that, unless one of us was born with more than $10,000,000, the odds of either of us earning $10,000,000 in a given year are worse than 10,000,000 to one. However, the delusion of this potential pie in the sky keeps people like you supporting the system as-is, without any reforms, so that America's real winners are very few and far between but pundits like Rush still maintain a gigantic population of "Losers" to complain about. The real Losers are people like you who are not earning the big bucks and who fall for this propaganda.

John McCain Says He Does Not Want Obama To Fail

If McCain really doesn't want Obama to fail, then McCain will find a way of working with the president and will vote for Obama's programs to give Obama the 60 Senate votes he needs to get his legislation passed. So far, three other Senate Republicans have broken ranks and voted with Democrats to get the Stimulus Package passed. But not McCain. Does Mr. Bi-Partisan McCain truly want Obama not to fail, or is he merely mouthing pieties? McCain should be judged by his actions, and by his votes, not by his words which -- so far -- have not been matched by his actions.

Why Wealthy Americans Often Lean To The Right

Many wealthy Americans lean to the Right because they are focused on keeping their taxes low. However, that is a very short-sighted attitude. Low taxes on the wealthy is not what keeps the economy healthy. FDR was fairly wealthy, and aristocratic. He was called "A Traitor To His Class." But he saved Capitalism with programs that spread America's wealth to millions of more people, and that created a strong consumer base for the products the entrepeneurs were creating and producing. It was not a question of low taxes or high taxes, but of fair taxes that allowed everyone to pay their fair share and to keep their fair share. Harry Truman called it The Fair Deal. The Kennedys were also very wealthy people who pushed for broad-based social programs, and Warren Buffet advocates the same thing today. Obama is not as wealthy as these liberal Democrats, but he is following similar policies. This is not Socialism or Communism. This is Healthy Capitalism -- as opposed to the Diseased Capitalism championed by the likes of Rush Limbaugh.

Obama Is Not De-Focused

How can Obama's signing an order lifting the ban on federal funding of embryonic stem cell research interfere with his focus on rescuing the economy? How long did signing that order take -- 5 minutes, 10 minutes? Barack did the right thing and now he has the scientific and medical communities moving forward again on important research. It didn't take very much time for him to do the right thing. He certainly has plenty of time left to focus on Priority Number One -- restoring the economy. Obama is not McCain. Obama can multi-task. Was it Gerald Ford who couldn't walk and chew gum at the same time? That's not Obama, either.

Obama Lifts Ban on Embryonic Stem Cell Research

Congratulations to President Obama for overturning Bush's eight year ban on the use of federal funds to support embryonic stem cell research. It's good to see an administration that puts science and knowledge back in the front seat again. It was sickening to watch so-called "religion" put a stop to scientific and medical advances for the past eight years. Must religion always be on the side of ignorance? Must it always exist in the Dark Ages? Must we still believe that the universe revolves around the Earth, and that ships can sail off the edge of the Earth into Hades? Is it really religion, or is it a cynical use of religion by political charlatans trying to hoodwink and control their followers which created this ban on stem cell research? It's a refreshing change, after the past eight years, to see someone with a real mind in the White House, who is using his mind for the benefit of all Americans, not just his business cronies.

Is Obama Taking On Too Much At Once?

Accusing Obama of "over-reaching" and not focusing on the economy is just another Right-Wing Talking Point. The areas on which Obama is focusing -- re-starting the flow of credit --health care, energy, infra-structure -- are all important elements in re-building America's economy. Over the past eight years, Republican policies of tax cuts, de-regulation and laissez faire have shattered the financial system. In the last Quarter of 2008, our economy was in free-fall, and now the stock market is tanking as more and more of the economic problems created under eight years of Conservative rule continue to emerge. Obama is taking the right steps. Republicans simply want to keep going in the same discredited direction -- more tax cuts for the rich.

The Misguided Minority

Republicans represent the wealthiest 2% of the nation -- and that's all. It's surprising that the GOP still has a 26% approval rating. Who are those other 24%? They must be the "Misguided Minority", "The Suckers Who Are Born Every Minute", the Rush Limbaugh "Dittoheads", etc. They are supporting a party which has no interest at all in them whatsoever. Republicans only care about the rich. They are frank and open about their contempt for the poor. Just look at their jackal-pack ridicule of a homeless man who took Michelle Obama's picture because he owns a cell phone. Homeless people should not own cell phones. They should have absolutely nothing. Only the rich are entitled to have things. Who are these poor fools -- these 24% of Americans -- who are not rich and yet continue to support the Republican Party? They are like condemned men pulling the switch on their own electric chairs.

Michelle Obama, A Profile In Courage

Michelle Obama is a truly inspirational person, courageous and honest. Things I find most inspiring about her include (a) when she was misquoted 24/7 by Right-Wing media pundits that "Never in my adult life have I been so proud of America"; (b) when her college thesis was taken out of context and trashed by the same lying pundits; (c) when she encouraged Barack to run for president despite the threats of assassination against him similar to those which caused Mrs. Colin Powell to convince her husband to stand down, with Michelle saying that "a black man can be shot and killed simply by going to the store to buy a pack of cigarettes". She also puts her family ahead of everything, another superb trait. Michelle is a brilliant, beautiful, articulate woman, and a true Profile in Courage. And, if you want an idea of the human slimeballs she has to contend with, just take a look at some of the ignorant, hate-filled postings on this Blog. St. Patrick killed all the snakes in Ireland. Judging by some of the other posts on this Blog, there are still many snakes infesting the USA awaiting St. Patrick's tender mercies to put them out of their misery.

Clearly, and without a doubt, Rush Limbaugh is the current head of the Republican Party. Several Republicans have now called upon Michael Steele to resign as head of the RNC, since his unfortunate run-in with Rush Limbaugh. However, not one Republican has called upon Limbaugh to resign, or to step down from his bonnie radio pulpit. The power and the throne reside in Limbaugh. A Limbaugh-Obama Debate?

Rush Limbaugh has challenged Barack Obama to debate him on their respective political and economic ideas. That's a bad suggestion. Barack Obama shouldn't debate Rush Limbaugh because Limbaugh doesn't have very much of a following. In 2008, Obama participated in many debates -- with all the Democratic candidates, then with Hillary Clinton alone, and finally with John McCain. Each of his debate antagonists was a worthy opponent. They all had substantial public support. However, in a recent national popularity poll, Rush Limbaugh scored ten points lower than Reverend Jeremiah Wright. Obama has not felt the need to debate Jeremiah Wright. Why, then, should he debate a radio commentator whose national popularity is ten points lower than Wright's? True, Rush Limbaugh may be America's Biggest Hot Air Balloon. But he still doesn't have nearly enough of a following to justify a debate with the president. Rush has his posse of Dittoheads, and Obama has the rest of America. Not much of a contest.

The House That Bush Built

Today, Rush Limbaugh once again said that tax cuts are the only cure for our current economic meltdown. He cited as his example how the tax cuts Reagan introduced in 1981 re-invigorated our economy following the hyper-inflation of the Carter years. However, conditions today are much more comparable to the Crash of 1929 and the Great Depression. In fact, one economist has said that, if we don't take quick, decisive steps to cure our present financial situation, people may never again talk about the Great Depression of the 1930's. The New Depression of 2009 will be so much worse that people will soon forget about the old one. Rush, the real remedy is similar to the programs FDR instituted in the 1930's -- massive spending and job creation programs. Put people back to work, and keep people in their homes. In 2001, Bush implemented huge tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans, de-regulation of our financial markets, and other economic laissez-faire policies. Now, we see the end result of these Bush-Rush Conservative programs. Yankee Stadium is called The House That Ruth Built. Today, we are all living in The House That Bush Built. It's called a House of Cards.

The Great Master Bakers

Conservatives remind me of a Great Master Baker who bakes a big delicious pie (the entrepeneur, risk-taking creator of wealth), and then proceeds to eat 98% of the pie himself, leaving only crumbs for everybody else. This Master Baker would not stay in business very long. That may be why the USA is in the midst of a "Going Out of Business" sale right now. It's not only the creation of the pie that's important, Ayn Rand -- it's also how fairly the pie is divided among the population. The motto should not be "All For One and None For All." Conservatives are known to be Great Master Bakers. But, when they over-eat, they get indigestion. Unfortunately, Conservative indigestion gives the rest of the country a whopping belly-ache, too.

Thank you for your comment on my Blog. You seem like a sensible, responsible person, and you and I certainly agree in our opinion of Rush Limbaugh. In fact, the above comment of yours about Limbaugh says it better and more accurately than I ever did. You are a thoughtful Conservative, someone with whom I can disagree, with total civility. You clearly see that people like Limbaugh, Coulter, Hannity, Savage, etc., are albatrosses around the necks of Conservatives and are bringing ridicule and discredit to the entire Conservative movement. They have hijacked the word "Conservative" in the same way that today's Islamic Radicals have hijacked the name of "Islam". As for Obama, his policies may be liberal, but he is doing what needs to be done today. Capitalism, in order to survive, must strike a healthy balance between the wealthiest few at the top and the rest of the people, who also need to survive. The economy is at the point today where massive funds must be funneled into it, in order to prime the pump and get the economy moving again. By paying some higher taxes now, the people at the top will help save the capitalist system, and they will reap huge benefits in the future, when the economy recovers. FDR did not bring Socialism or Communism to America. He saved capitalism. Obama is doing the same today. What Obama is doing now would not have been necessary if the economy wasn't tanking after eight years of George Bush. A rigid adherence to Conservative economy ideology will not solve today's problems. That would only make things worse, as we've seen from the collapse of the economy in the final Quarter of 2008, when Bush was still in office.

Rush Hopes Planet Earth Explodes

Yesterday I posted a comment suggesting that Rush Limbaugh should play the role of The Joker in the next "Batman" sequel, now that Heath Ledger is gone. Today, lo and behold, Limbaugh announced that he is "rooting for the planet Earth to explode" because it would help the Republicans recapture the White House. Talk about a Rapid Response. Rush is already auditioning for the Joker role. The problem is that Rush will have to improve his aim if he hopes to land that coveted role. The only thing Rush is exploding, so far, is the Republican Party.

Class Warfare and Wealth Redistribution

Virtually every tax or spending policy will in some way redistribute wealth. Sometimes it will be upward, sometimes downward. But the media only uses the terms class warfare and redistribution of wealth when discussing a downward transfer.

As memorably stated by John Kenneth Galbraith: "The modern Conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness."

El Rushbo

Thanks to the current brouhaha, Rush Limbaugh's radio audience has jumped overnight from 12 million to 25 million listeners.
However, most of his new hearers are probably Non-Dittoheads who are listening in horror and disbelief to see how dreadfully appalling El Rushbo can be. It's like the hypnotic fascination of watching (or listening to) a Freak Show. Every night is Fright Night with Rush -- and every day is Friday the Thirteenth.

Krauthammer Says Obama Wants To Socialize Health Care,Education and Energy, Not Solve the Banking and Credit Crises

The fact that Obama is moving forward in trying to solve America's long-term problems in health, energy and education does not mean that he isn't also forging ahead at the same time to solve our immediate banking and credit issues. It is intellectually dishonest for you to say otherwise, Mr. K. Obama is trying to strengthen our country in all these areas, and the final result will be a much healthier economy than we have today. It took eight years of Conservative economic policies to create the current mess. Obama will turn things around but he is trying to achieve a long-term cure for our economy, not just a short-term fix. Obama is a multi-tasker, who can tackle more than one problem at a time. Considering the mess of problems the Republicans have dumped on him, Obama is aiming to resolve them all, not just the two or three most immediately pressing ones.

Heath Ledger and Rush Limbaugh

Heath Ledger fans want the Joker character retired, and Rush Limbaugh fans who admired Heath Ledger in "Brokeback Mountain" say that gay men should never be depicted on film again. Actually, Heath Ledger fans and Rush Limbaugh fans can be brought together in a brotherly display of unity and bipartisanship on which they can all agree. Rather than retiring the Joker character, why not have Rush Limbaugh play the Joker in the next "Batman" sequel? What perfect type-casting that would be. Who in real-life has more of the Joker's brain, conscience, heart and soul than Rush Limbaugh?

Senator Barbara Boxer has said that the Democratic Party is "The Party of Hope" and the Republican Party is "The Party of Nope."
The GOP is also "The Party of Dope", if you include Rush Limbaugh; and "The Party of Dopes", if you add his Dittoheads.

Conservatives Love Communist China

Conservatives have now discovered that Communist China does not impose any taxes on its giant, multi-national corporations. Zero taxes. As a result, Conservatives have fallen in love with Communist China. It's their new role model for the USA. Silly Conservatives. They had thought that Communist China was a Workers' Paradise. Now, they realize it's actually an Owners' Paradise. Faster than Flying Dragons, Conservatives have fallen in love with Communist China's economic system.

Today's New Tea Parties

Now, America's Wealthiest are organizing new "Boston Tea Parties" to protest the modest tax increases the Obama administration is enacting on people in the top brackets. How patriotic they are. Talk about Class Warfare. They have enjoyed substantial tax decreases during the past eight Bush years while young men from poorer families signed up in our "Volunteer Army" two fight in two distant wars on our country's behalf. What sacrifices these Tea Party Protesters are being called upon to make. It's as though Confederate slave owners during the Civil War had organized "Tea Parties" to protest the Emancipation Proclamation and the freeing of their slaves. Of course, some of those Southern ex-slave owners did end up in destitution and poverty as a result of losing their slaves. However, it's highly unlikely that the modest tax increases Obama is implementing will inflict that level of pain on today's privileged elite.

Communist China vs. USA

With Conservatives constantly railing against Communism and Socialism, how come Communist China is now the strongest, wealthiest economic power in the world whereas our capitalist system is floundering on the brink of another Depression. With Bush and his Conservatives having run this country for the past eight years, how come our economy is now so sick while Communist China's economy is so healthy? If Conservatives can't even come up with an economic system that can hold its own against Communist China, then it's high time for Conservatives to step aside and let someone else try to repair the wreckage they have created. Conservatives have run this country -- into the ground.

Soviet Communism and American Conservatism

Soviet Communism created many fine things -- vodka, caviar, smoked salmon, pickled herring -- to name but a few. They also produced dachas and automobiles. Unfortunately, most of those goods and services went to the top 2% of the people -- the leaders of the Soviet Communist Party. Brezhnev, for example, owned a huge collection of fancy automobiles imported from all over the world. The rest of the population had little or nothing. Conservatives favor the same kind of distribution system here in the United States. They advocate distributing America's wealth in the same way that the Soviet Union did -- with most everything going to the top 2% of the population. That's why I say that Conservatives are Communists. Through tax shelters, tax loopholes, repeal of the estate tax, massive income tax reductions for the wealthiest Americans, etc., Conservatives want to make sure that the wealth flows upward -- up, up and away from most Americans. Such gross economic inequality caused the collapse of the Soviet Union. As someone once said: "To claim that Ronald Reagan caused the collapse of the Soviet Union is like saying that a rooster crowing at dawn is what causes the sun to rise." More to the point, Mikhail Gorbachev -- who is responsible for the dissolution of Soviet Communism -- said: "I could have lived out the rest of my life as a modern-day Ceasar, but not when I looked around and saw how poorly the rest of my fellow citizens were living." Now, after eight years of Bush's regressive economic policies, Conservatives have brought American capitalism to the brink of destruction. Obama's programs of massive spending and re-regulation of our financial systems, will undoubtedly save and reform American capitalism, making it stronger and healthier. The only thing Conservatives have to contribute to the discussion is Rush Limbaugh's ultra-patriotic statement: "I want Obama to fail". Conservatives, whether in or out of power, are doing everything they possibly can to bring about America's failure.

Liberals Did Not Want Bush to Fail

Rush Limbaugh wants Obama to fail so that his rigid right-wing economic ideology is not totally discredited. Liberals did not want Dubya Bush to fail. They simply watched in helpless horror as Bush piled failure upon failure for eight long years. Now, all Rush wants is that America stick with those disastrous Far Right Bush policies that have placed America on the Road to Ruin. Rush would rather blow up the bus than have someone like Obama turn it around and put the country back on a safe track and move us away from the edge of the cliff. I wonder, to which flag does Rush Limbaugh pledge allegiance?

Rush is Wright, Ayres and Horton Rolled Into One

Rush Limbaugh has become the Jeremiah Wright, William Ayres and Willie Horton of the Republican Party. A pompous, bombastic Far Right extremist, Rush has emerged as a national embarrassment to the GOP. The difference is that the other three were very peripheral figures to the Democratic Party. Limbaugh, by contrast, has now replaced good old Senator Robert A. Taft of Ohio for the title of "Mr. Republican."

Batman's New Joker -- Rush

Rush Limbaugh has all the warmth, charm, kindness and decency displayed by The Joker in the recent Batman film, "The Dark Knight". Now that Heath Ledger is gone, Rush Limbaugh would be the perfect choice to play The Joker in the sequel. After all, Rush is "an entertainer", isn't he? An actor? A comedian? What excellent type-casting that would be. Rush -- the GOP Joker -- terrorizing Gotham City.

From the beginning of Obama's career, he has had strong political support from prominent Jewish leaders in Chicago. When he launched his first political campaign in an African-American community, one of the harshest criticisms leveled against Obama in that community (many of whose voters were supporting a rival black candidate) was that he was too close to the Jews and, indeed, that he was the candidate of the Jews. Obama has always been close to the Jews, so it is hardly a surprise that he would withdraw from an international conference designed to promote anti-Semitism and anti-Israel propaganda. It's a sorry commentary that so many Jewish Conservatives would fan false fears about Obama and create the canard that he or his government would find themselves within a hundred miles of an anti-Semitic conference. Obama is one of the most pro-Jewish and pro-Israel presidents we have ever had. The American Jewish community is not being fooled by these lies. They voted overwhelmingly for Obama in 2008, and their support for him will be even greater in 2012.

It's great to see everyone finally catching on to Rush Limbaugh, and what an egregious disaster he is. No Republican leader dares stand up against him. What Kind of Capitalism?

Conservative beliefs are really very close to the actual practice of Communism. That's why I say that Conservatives Are Communists. In Soviet Communism, most of the wealth was concentrated in the hands of the 2 or 3% of the people who were the leaders of the Communist Party. Everything else was spread among the remaining 97% of the population, who ended up with very little. That's why the Soviet Union finally collapsed. Conservatives believe in the same kind of narrow concentration of wealth here in the United States. This kind of disproportionate wealth distribution can only bring our nation to a similar economic collapse as the Soviet Union. We're seeing signs of such a shake-down right here, right now, after eight years of Conservative rule. Liberals believe in laws which further a broader and more equitable distribution of the nation's wealth. It's not Darwinian Dog-Eat-Dog Capitalism. It is controlled, regulated Capitalism. That kind of economic system will help keep our nation healthy, wealthy and wise.

Reforming Our Economic System

Workers also contribute to wealth creation -- not only the inventor, entrepeneur or owner of the business. Workers are entitled to a fair share of the wealth they help produce. In recent years, the disproportion between the earnings of CEO's and of their employees has become vaster than ever before. This disproportion does not contribute to a healthy, long-lasting economy. Making sure that workers take home more money, even if the boss takes home a little less, will ensure continuing prospertiy for everyone. We've had long-term prosperity from 1933, when FDR instituted major reforms in our economic system, until now. Obama's reforms, and his creation of healthier, more broad-based domestic markets, will keep our prosperity rolling for many years into the future.

The Tax Code

The Tax Code is a political decision. Congress decides who keeps what percentage of the money he or she earns, and pays what percentage in taxes. Whether the top 2% pay 40% or 50% of their earnings in taxes is a political choice. Obama's programs, which will spread more money to more people, will re-invigorate the economy. It will create more buying power among more consumers who will then spend that money buying things. The rich will actually end up getting richer because there will be many more consumers who can afford to buy their products. Obama's programs will broaden and strengthen America's consumer base. His plans will also improve and modernize our aging infra-structure which will make this country even stronger and more prosperous.
