Roger Ailes claims "I don't do politics, I do the news" -- but Fox openly engages in political advocacy
As TVNewser noted, The Naples Daily News (FL) reported on an April 26 speech that Fox News president Roger Ailes gave in Florida and quoted Ailes stating of how Republicans could win in the fall: "I can't help 'em. ... I'm not in politics anymore. I don't do politics, I do the news." Yet Ailes' news organization regularly engages in open and blatant political advocacy on a regular basis. The following are just a few examples.
Fox News openly advocated against health care reform. During the debate over health care reform, Fox News openly advocated against the Democrats' efforts. In addition to routinely misinforming viewers, Fox News hosts, reporters, and contributors announced their opposition to reform; urged viewers to tell congressmembers to "vote no"; pushed anti-reform protests; and solicited donations for ads opposing reform and for Republicans opposing pro-reform Democrats.
Fox personalities set goals to "get rid" of administration officials, "take the administration down." Fox News' Glenn Beck has boasted about working on a project that he thinks will "take the administration down" and has asked his followers to dig up information on administration officials. Other Fox News personalities have also attacked numerous Obama administration officials and nominees and called for at least 19 of them resign, be fired, or have their nominations blocked.
Fox heavily promoted April 15, 2009, tea parties. Fox News heavily promoted and advocated for the April 15, 2009 tea parties, which it characterized as a response to Obama administration policies. Fox News frequently aired segments -- from both "opinion" and "news" personalities -- publicizing the protests and encouraging viewers to get involved with them. In many instances, Fox News provided attendance and organizing information, such as dates, locations and website URLs. In early April, Fox News announced that four hosts from the network -- Beck, Neil Cavuto, Greta Van Susteren, and Sean Hannity -- would appear live at four tea party sites and would broadcast the protests live throughout the day. At one point, Fox News even referred to the tea parties as "FNC Tax Day Tea Parties," and the Fox Nation also hosted its own "virtual tea party."
Fox personalities campaign for GOP candidates. Media Matters has extensively documented, Fox News contributor Dick Morris and host Mike Huckabee asked Fox viewers to donate to various political action committees and political organizations that oppose legislation proposed by Democrats or raise money for Republican campaigns. Also, Fox hosts and personalities have raised millions of dollars for Republican candidates, bolstered the efforts of Republican candidates or causes in 49 states, and have actively campaigned for them on and off the air

who, according to Sally Aman, spokesperson for MMA, had “early support from Moveon.org, (George Soros) and the New Democrat Network,(Left leaning)” that Media Matters has received. Media Matters' sole purpose is to discredit conservative and republican commentary and opinion. They have a Progressive agenda. Yet you try to palm it off as unbiased. This, again is a Progressive tactic. You have one biased organization calling another, opposing view, biased.
What is the matter with you people? Don't you realize that the day that we silence opposing views--FROM EITHER SIDE, is the day that we loose our liberties and freedoms? I think that the people that watch Fox know that it is more conservative than the other stations. Not a "news flash".
I am not going to waste my time defending Fox News, although I watch it alot, and have never heard ANYONE state that they want to "take the administration down". BUT I will say that Fox is NOT as biased as MSNBC, yet I don't hear anyone from the Right trying to discredit them, or try to silence them.
On Fox, you have regular liberal contributors such as, Bob Beckel, Susan Estrich, Juan Williams (NPR), Alan Colmes, Geraldo Rivera (with his own show)and many, many others. The author fails to mention that.
You and I both know that the ratings that Fox has is what drives this constant assult from the Left. If Fox didn't have the giant ratings, it would be a non issue.
You people need to wake up. Truth is, you guys are beginning to get really scary. I think people are seeing that.

The powers of the Federal Government are listed, no more, no less. All other power is vested in the STATES and CITIZENS.
Roe v wade made abortion federal, not the constitution. Before Roe v Wade, it was UP TO THE STATES to determine how they wanted to approach abortion. It's called FEDERALISM and that is what our Constitution is based on, NOT a centralized federal government.

I never tried to pass off Media Matters as being unbiased. Media Matters is overwhelmingly biased --- against FOX News. Just as I am. Just as most sane people are.
The difference is that Media Matters, every single day, presents chapter and verse as to why they are so biased against FOX News. And, it's always based on the latest lying whoppers to fly out of the mouths of FOX News' Talking Heads.

Violent crime has increased substantially. I lived there. No one is making this up. The kidnappings, the home invasions, the murder rate. I lived there for many, many years and saw it change. Drugs have become a big problem and the illegals sell to jr high school kids. Heroin has become the "new" drug of choice. Identity theft is HUGE. Where do you think all of the fake SS#'s come from? Various states outlawed abortion, some did not. It was up to the state. It was up to the individual state because a restriction on abortion until roe v wade was not allowed. It was up to the states and the citizens of those states to determine how they wanted to approach it.
remember, the Constitution left all power not innumerate to the federal gov't up to the states and the individuals in that state. If you lived in Illinois and Illinois voted to allow abortion, you could go to IL for an abortion. It wasn't a power left up to the FED's

It's the states that deprived people of their liberty, not the federal government. It's the states that instituted slavery, poll taxes, segregation and all the institutions which kept colored people down as second class citizens.
That's why the 14th Amendment was enacted after the Civil War -- to apply the Bill of Rights to the states. It already did apply to the federal government.
Individuals who wanted liberty needed protection from the states. It was the states, not the federal government, which were impinging upon people's individual liberty.
Roe v. Wade ruled that a woman's decision as to whether or not to have an abortion was an individual liberty. It held that states could not continue to make abortions illegal. Roe v. Wade did not give any more rights or powers to the federal government. It established a clear right to abortion for individuals which states could no longer criminalize.
The history of oppression in the United States has been that oppression of individuals has generally come from the states, not the federal government. It's the states, not the federal government, which needed to be reined in -- through the application of the Bill of Rights, the Fourteenth Amendment, the federal supremacy clause, and Supreme Court decisions in favor of individual liberty.

Abortion was left up to the states not the feds Roe v Wade was pulled out of a judges ass with nothing to support it.
Some states had slavery, others did not. Some states had poll taxes, others did not. Some states allowed abortion, some did not. The laws in a state are established by the people in that state, it isn't imposed on you, at least it's not supposed to be. And if you don't like the law you can vote in order to get it changed.

There is something called the Bill of Rights. The Fourteenth Amendment applies the Bill of Rights to states as well as to the federal government.
The Fourteenth Amendment prevents states from infringing on individual rights. One of those individual rights is the right to have an abortion without state interference. Just as no state can impose poll taxes any longer, so can no state today criminalize abortions.
How on Earth can you consider yourselves free, or with your liberties protected, if a state government can oppress you instead of the federal government? What kind of demented Con thinking is that?

You didn't say "tax cut" when you mentioned Obama...You said "tax refund check". There was no refund check. People got to keep an extra $4.00-$8.00 on their paycheck, but since the tax base wasn't adjusted, most people still owed that at the end of the year. It was like a "shell game".

You are the only person that I have ever heard that complains about deductions for kids...I agree that the whole tax thing is stupid and that a flat tax would be more fair, and it is proven to bring in more revenue. Property taxes are property taxes, and school is important. Good thing that people didn't mind paying for your schooling when you were growing up. Now you have a nice living, and good education. If you care about keeping people from being poor, I think that you would be all for education.

I just went full time with my main contract (first check is in the mail) because WA started taxing all lawyers, CPAs, custom software developers (me) a state sales tax which is around 10 percent per year.
I used to like the deductions for a corporation that I can no longer claim, like central air conditioning (because of so many computers), full house backup power, etc, but the tax made any new deductions less worthwhile.
Now as an employee, I dont have to worry about liability, paying corporate lawyers, and paying cpas for my tax calculation. Plus I have unemployment insurance and other protections. Its a funny world.

To begin. Just because someone is a lawyer does not mean that he is an expert on the consitiution. There are Constitutional Lawyers for that. It is a specialty and few lawyers are qualified to interpret the Constitution. By the way---some of the biggest crooks that I have ever known have been lawyers, so you can maybe remove Obama's halo for a moment when you speak of his lawyerism, please.
As for funding Schools? Europe does it on the Federal level and isn't that the same arguement that you used on Healthcare? That all of the other nations did it and we were the only ones that didn't? Every nation uses taxes to pay for schools, RG. Be consistant.

So your link just told me that he was not a Constitutional Lawyer---or maybe was. It isn't clear. Being an instructor of law does not tell us that it was constitiutional law that he was lecturing in. However, you may be right. Who knows? U of Chicago has him down as a Senior Lecturer of Law. He reportedly did some lecturing on Constitutional Law, but I can't find anyting that confirms that he ever had that as a certification or specialty. He did work as a Civil Rights Lawyer, but that in itself is another specialty.
Seems that there is some grey area here, but I still stand by my original statement that some of the biggest crooks that I have ever known (and I have known TONS of them) have been lawyers. Because someone is a lawyer does not automatically earn him a halo in my book.

If you want to invest in something as poor as gold then go ahead, but dont ever expect it being the main stream currency. I do believe that inflation is just around the corner but their are better hedges against it than gold. Look at property values and the stock market adjusted for inflation thru the 80's.

Okay so "FOX News" is the Propaganda Broadcasting Station of the Republican party and all other news stations are the propaganda broadcasting stations of the Democratic Party and far left. I am so glad I can see both sides of the issue because of FOX News.
I'm scared for this country when we begin to try to discredit individual, or organizations with opposing view points. We are forgetting what has made our country great is that we have freedom of speech and can disagree. I do not understand why the left is so opposed to FOX News. I would think that they would welcome the chance to have their opinions, ideals, and beliefs challenged so that they, the left can make better and more convincing arguments for what they believe. I do wonder why they attack FOX news on a personal level instead of using the facts. So what if FOX leans to the right. That is their right and it is the right of every person to choose to watch FOX News if that is what they want to do. No is forcing they to watch it; they can change the channel if they want.
I will worry when we do not have someone who questions our government and holds it accountable for what it does. It is our government and we should know what is going on. FOX is showing news items that other news stations aren't, and I'm glad. President Obama and this administration needs to be watched, just like every other previous president and administration before him. We depend on the news to let us know what is going on they are suppose to be the watchdog. I will worry when all news agencies have the same opinion and become the lapdog for any political party or person.
Even if you agree with President Obama and his administration any intelligent person would want to know what is going on good or bad. Or have we forgotten the saying "Absolute power corrupts absolutely" Even the most honorable person can be corrupted if they had absolute power. News organizations are suppose to be our eyes and ears in Washington. I want them to be watchdogs not lapdog.
We are the government not the people in Washington DC. They work for us not the other way around. I want to know what they are doing. And I'm glad that FOX showed certain people in the House and Senate calling people who opposed their views on Healthcare unamerican. Those people need to be out of office. Being able to oppose and criticize our government is exactly what our Founding Fathers wanted us to be able to do. The people who went to townhall meeting and voiced their "opposing" opinion on the heathcare issue were exercising one of the most fundamental rights we have... to disagree with our government officials. And to call people who disagree with you, as a public offical unamerican is a disgrace to the public office you hold. Those people need to be voted out and replaced with people, on either side of the isle, who understand what their role as our representatives in "our" government is and what being an American is. I didn't see any other news station question why this public officals would call people who disagreed with them unamerican. I saw other news station agreeing with them.
If our present administration leaned to the right I would be gratefull to News stations other than FOX who would call those government officals out on the things they were doing.

I tried BB. Again, I lived in AK for 7 years and TX for 3 years. Oil is a big part of state life in both places. AK is the number 1 producer of oil in the nation, TX is number 2, CA is number 3. AK was making so much interest on set aside oil taxes, they paid each and every resident between 700 and 2000 per year from the interest alone. TX taxes were also very very low from what I remember. Comon BB how hard is it to see? What about Saudi Arabia? They're fiscally sound also. Is it because they are conservative, in a con sense?
I don't know what California's problem is. Maybe they have many many more illegal immigrants that the state must take care of with free schooling?

So Alaska and Texas have oil going for them, what about all the great income earner in California? They are number one in food production, a renewable resource. Why isnt california rolling in the money, everyone needs to eat, even more than they need oil?
