From Media Matters for America -- June 24, 2010:
Glenn Beck has repeatedly accused Obama administration officials of being communists or similar to communists
Beck has portrayed current and former Obama administration officials as communists, Maoists, Marxists, and socialists. Media Matters has documented Beck's extended campaign of red-baiting Obama and current and former administration officials. Beck has falsely claimed that former White House communications director Anita Dunn "worships" "her hero" Mao Zedong; attacked "manufacturing czar" Ron Bloom for citing Mao in a speech, despite the fact that many conservatives have done the same; repeatedly called Obama a socialist and a Marxist and suggested he's a communist; and repeatedly smeared former White House adviser Van Jones as a communist, ignoring the fact that Van Jones has said he's not a communist.
Glenn Beck -- who has said that Sen. Joseph McCarthy was "absolutely right" -- devoted his Fox News show to purportedly helping his viewers decide "was McCarthy right." During the show, Beck renewed his extended campaign of red-baiting President Obama, his family, and progressives, at one point opining on the effectiveness of duck-and-cover drills in raising awareness of the dangers of communism.
BECK: What do they say about McCarthy? Oh, he's conducting witch hunts, smearing innocent victims, spreading hysteria. On February 11, 1950, McCarthy wrote this telegram to the president, President Truman, in which he explained, "I have in my possession the names of 57 communists who are in the State Department at present." [Glenn Beck, 6/24/10]
Beck asks, "Was McCarthy right?" before red-baiting Obama's family and "all of the people who are ruling now." On the June 4 edition of his radio program, Beck said that McCarthy "may have used bad tactics ... but he was absolutely right."
Au Contraire, my Dear Mr. Beck --- the fact is that Senator Joseph McCarthy never proved that one single member of the State Department was a Communist.
At various times, McCarthy claimed to have the names of 57 Communists -- even several hundred "card-carrying Communists" -- in his possession. He never even named one person in the State Department who proved to be a Communist.
Glenn Beck not only idolizes McCarthy -- Beck is doing his best to be "McCarthy's Second Coming". The Big Lie is Beck's favorite technique -- the same as McCarthy's. Keep on saying that people are Communists -- and there are enough gullible poor souls around so that you will never have to prove anything about anyone.
Of course, the fact that Communism has collapsed and is no longer a threat to the USA doesn't mean anything. Keep repeating scary tales about the Bogey Man. I'm surprised Glenn Beck hasn't claimed that Obama's family are all Witches. That's next.

Oh wow. You sure called him out on that one. But can you blame him? More than 70% of Obamas supporters are wanting socialism. One step away from communism. Not ever has this country been this close to socialism.
http://theshoutforfreedom.blogspot.com/
Actually, Ivy, the only time anyone in America even thinks about Socialism is when Conservative laissez-faire policies periodically wreck our capitalist system. That's why in 1932, at the height of the Republican Hoover Depression, the American Communist Party polled over one million votes -- its all-time high water mark.
Therefore, if you really want to see Socialism take over this country, the fastest way to bring that about is to put Conservatives back in power and let them finish the job of destroying the American economy -- which they nearly accomplished in 2008.
Obama has been trying to save our capitalist economy, but the Obstructionist GOP Party of No has been doing its best to stop him from saving our skins.
"Ron Bloom for citing Mao in a speech"
WRONG. The exact quote that Bloom used is this, "we agree with Chairman Mao, that power comes from the barrel of a gun". Don't think that I have ever heard that quote coming from a conservative. That is a pretty scary thought, and quote.
No, CJP. What I am hearing is many people, to include Cindy Sheehan, calling for Socialism.
Van Jones is an avowed communist. Go to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standing_Together_to_Organize_a_Revolutionary_Movement
Jones was a founding organizer and leader[4] of the communist revolutionary organization, Standing Together to Organize a Revolutionary Movement (STORM). The organization had its roots in a group protesting "U.S. Imperialism" during the Persian Gulf War of 1991. The leftist blog Machete 48 identifies STORM's influences as "third-worldist Marxism (and an often vulgar Maoism).
READ the documentation. It is out there.
The Beck segment that your author refers to was based on a book that was written about the McCarthy Era, and Beck had the author on the show. In the book there are official government documents from that era. Beck did not say that McCarthy was right, but pointed out that McCarthy took direction from other officials of the government and in essence ended up as the "fall guy" for the whole investigation. This is true.
It is true that Obama's parents were very active with leftist organizations. Communists? Don't know...
"at one point opining on the effectiveness of duck-and-cover drills in raising awareness of the dangers of communism."
On this, your author is absolutley LYING. Beck actually stated that the "duck and cover drills" were part of growing up in the cold war era (true) and would have been grossly ineffective, however because of the COLD WAR a generation was made aware of the dangers of communism, and that it is no longer taught in our schools, so most kids these days have no idea what it is or how it doesn't work.
"Of course, the fact that Communism has collapsed and is no longer a threat to the USA doesn't mean anything."
Again WRONG. Communism has not collapsed. The Soviet Union collapsed, but communism is alive and well in Red China, & Cuba to name 2 (Venezuela is another---however not officially called such, read Chavez's own words, please)
Communism is a political ideology and has NOT gone away. It still has many fans (see websites) and followers. It remains a goal and dream for many.
Really, CJP. You know and are better than this.
Knock Beck all that you want, but PLEASE don't quote or post absolute lies.
I realize that there is a concerted effort to distort and discredit Beck, and in the attempt many things that he is accused of saying are simply not true. I started watching the show to see what all of the flap was about, and to be honest most of what he is accused of saying is distorted---as in this article. I actually TIVO the show so that I can reference the truths from the untruths. It is actually quite amazing! The sad thing is, most won't go to the lengths that I have to separate the truth from the fiction, or educate themselves in both sides of the issues and just tend to follow...
One more thing that I MUST correct:
Hoover ran as a Republican; but he was also a PROGRESSIVE. The national unrest had little to do with republican---and certainly NOT conservative policies, but instead because of the economic atmosphere at the time.
Easy to look back on the surface and assume that you know what caused what, but it isn't as black and white as you would like to think.
Hoover actually continued T. Roosevelts progressive policies.
You see, there are Progressive Dems and Progressive Republicans, which is why we so seldom see a big difference in candidates anymore. Why we see rabid spending by both parties, and end up with "more of the same".
No, CJP, Hoover was NOT a conservative, and on this I have to disagree with you. Bush was NOT a conservative. This is NOT what brings Socialism in. Socialism is given to us in small doses until it becomes easier to swallow.
61.7% of the population believes that we are heading in the wrong direction. Not a FOX poll. This is NBC, Wall St Journal, Rassmusen, CBS, and about 4 others. Interesting....
Add Bachmann to the list.
Ms. Bachmann has a history of amusing misstatements which would be funny if they were (a) actual misstatements not her honest opinion or (b) the mutterings of my old aunt or (c) at least not from an elected official.
How the heck does this nut get re-elected?
Anyhow, here is a story about Bachmann that is fact-based but also funny:
www.dailygoat.com/2010/07/michele-bachmann-breaks-up-with-global-economy-global-economy-secretly-relieved/
I just don't understand how people are so quick to say that Obama isn't socialist or communist just because he says so. If people would simply do some research regarding the principles of freedom on which this country was founded and compare and contrast to the ideas of Marx and then Alinsky, the truth becomes so obvious. Its not even hidden for Pete's sake. Every single action that this administration has taken has been in the aim of (as Obama said 5 days before his election) the "fundamental transformation of America". It didn't work in Europe and now they're warning us to stop spending while Obama urges them to continue on the path to surfdom! Wake up people!!!!
Since the stimulus was passed we saw 8 months of growth followed by 8 months of no growth. Since little or no money was paid during the first few months since the stimulus was passed, we can agree the growth we saw the first few months had nothing to do with the stimulus. Since the last 8 months have seen little to know growth we can agree that the stimulus is no longer working. (if it ever was) So can dems and republicans both agree that Obama spent 800 billion dollars so we could see 3-5 months worth of growth? Since the stimulus was passed we also saw unemployment raise from 8.2 to 9.7% and wasnt the point of the stimulus to create jobs? Where are all the jobs Obama promised?
Obamanomics is going to KILL us!
None of these people know what they're doing. They were put in place to push an agenda---not fix anything! Look at the oil spill--a disgusting display of ineptitude! Day what? 75? and we STILL don't have the ships and help from all 15-30 nations that offered help from day 1!!!
Spend more! Even Europe is facing reality and realizing that the spending has to stop--but we have Obama and his people that want to keep it going! I swear---everyday it's something else! (and we have 2.5 more years of this crap!)
What is this with pushing through another appointee without Senate confirmation? Obama pushed through Don Berwick on a holiday weekend, while the Senate is out, in order to circumvent the process. (most agree that he would have had a tough time getting him through.)
How much more of this do we have to look forward to? Even the liberals are starting to worry!
CJP- At the end of the Bush presidency in 2008 we had $4 Trillion in Federal debt. Now we have $13 Trillion in national debt. Taxes will increase at the end of December 2010 (the expiration of Bush's tax cut). How is the current administration saving the economy by non-stop spending?
ALSO, the tax cuts were given to the bottom 10% of earners as well as the top earners. That means that when these cuts go away, taxes will go up for all. What did he say about not raising taxes for anyone making under $250,000 per year??? Not to mention all of the other taxes going back into effect...we're screwed...
Now we have these Bozos going around talking about the "summer of recovery" What a crock! No one believes it. Do they honestly think that they can say something enough times that eventually we will all bellieve it? Oh, yeah, they actually do. They think we're stupid!
And 55% of Americans believe that Obama is a Socialist. THAT came from a Carvell poll (not FOX) No wonder Americans are unhappy. Sorry guys. We don't WANT to be Socialists. (Progressives are Socialists. Same thing, different (less scary) name---see the bottom of the American Communist Party website---it give special thanks to the Progressives for the funding. Obama calls himself a Progressive)

Racists dominate the Repugnican's and Teabaggers' parties.
Anon2. The TeaParty movement is NOT about race. It is about less government, taxes, and spending. You are buyiing the kool aide and you are getting your opinions 2nd hand. $100,000 dollars has been offered to ANYONE that could find and record a case of racism at a TeaParty. No one has been able to collect yet. For the love of God---even Whoopie Goldberg and Steven A Smith (both African Americans) came to the defense of the TeaParty today on The View; admonishing the NAACP for their accusations of racism within the TeaParty movement! If you're so sure that it's there, maybe you should go, take your camera phone or recorder, and try to make yourself some extra cash.
You Progressives had better watch yourselves...People---of BOTH colors---are getting tired of the race card being played solely for political gain. It is going to blow up in your faces---you can bet on it. It is MUCH too serious an issue to be played with.
BTW---how's that Canadian KKK working out for you?

"Loot, baby, loot." .....
"Starve, baby, starve." .....
The Cons are selling out their country and their own souls (IF they've got one)as usual, nothing new.
Caseyboy, don't bother posting since I never read your posts. LOL
Anon2:
You don't read my posts because you can't handle being challenged by the truth. The difference is, you post OPINIONS from Huffinton, and I give you FACTS with websites.
Until your country is absolutley perfect, you need to quit throwing stones at mine.
And yes, we do need to drill. I suppose you never use oil up there in Canada? Wanna just get it all from the Middle East? Give us an alturnative, Anon2....What's your brilliant answer to this?
Over the course of eight short years -- between 2000 and 2008 -- the Republicans methodically executed their plan to transform American society. They systematically transferred wealth from the middle class to the wealthiest two percent of Americans -- slashing taxes for the wealthy. They eviscerated the rules that held Wall Street, Big Oil and private insurance companies accountable to the public. They allowed and encouraged the recklessness of the big Wall Street banks that ultimately collapsed the economy and cost eight million Americans their jobs. They ignored exploding health care costs, tried to privatize Social Security, gave the drug companies open season to gouge American consumers and presided over a decline in real incomes averaging $2,000 per family. They entangled America in an enormously costly, unnecessary war in Iraq, pursued a directionless policy that left Afghanistan to fester, and sullied America's good name throughout the world.
"slashing taxes for the wealthy"---Anon2
" The wealthiest 1 percent of the population earn 19 percent of the income but pay 37 percent of the income tax. The top 10 percent pay 68 percent of the tab. Meanwhile, the bottom 50 percent—those below the median income level—now earn 13 percent of the income but pay just 3 percent of the taxes."
Drinking the koolaide again. The fact is, they did get some tax cuts, but as you can see, they still are paying the majority of the tax burden for the majority of this country.
I am for a flat tax, which would be a much cheaper, and much more FAIR way to pay taxes, but you Progressives don't like that idea. (even though it works well in the countries that implement it) You Progressives don't like it because it goes against your re-distribution of wealth agenda.
Now... when the Bush tax cuts expire, taxes will go up for EVERYONE in this country---even the poorest. It is a falacy that the cuts were only for the "rich"
Really, Anon2. You need to READ something besides Huffington. You might learn this stuff.
As for the housing bubble and the mortgage meltdown. The crazy mortgage programs that allowed the bad loans, started under Clinton, and yes they were expanded under Bush, but EVERYONE had a hand in it.
Barney Frank and Chris Dodd were in charge of the oversight of the major players in the mess.
Again.
BTW---what Huff Post article did you get your last post from? You didn't write it yourself.
And you are ducking my first question...What brilliant idea do you have to solve the oil problem. You don't want to drill, and dependency on the middle east for oil is not working out for the world, so what should we do? Windmills? solar power? french fry oil? What do we do RIGHT NOW to power our cars, homes, farms, etc??
Easy to say that we shouldn't drill, but you have no alturnatives.
The facts are this: prior to deep water drilling (enviromentalists are to thank for the fact that we have to go into waters so deep that they can't get down there should there be a disaster)but, prior to this, there have been no oil spills from off shore drilling since 1969. The tough regulations are there---the govenment just needs to enforce them, as they didn't in the BP disaster. Like it or not (and the truth is gonna hurt here)The government (Obama people) waived regualtions and inspections for BP within the past year!
So...what's the answer Anon2?
Reality is, we have to drill. Until we can develope and perfect alturnative fuels, oil is what we have, and drilling is necessary.

"The Evolution of Fascism -- Then and Now
My late brother used to tell the story of asking in Sunday school whether we were descended from apes or Adam and Eve. The teacher (a nun) answered, "well, some people descended from Adam and Eve," and then, as she gestured to the only black kid in the class, "some people descended from apes." (Even at 9, my brother was shocked. So were my parents. No more Sunday school for him.)
I'm almost surprised I haven't heard this theory from creationists trying to fake a respect for science by acknowledging this as a possible explanation for the human fossil record. It would jibe with an ongoing strategy of selectively co-opting elements of the opposition, and in the course of so doing blatantly misappropriating and rewriting history. Glenn Beck tries to claim the mantle of Martin Luther King, as Rand Paul imagines that he would have marched on Selma. Opposite Day has been proclaimed across the land--even seemingly immutable mathematics are not safe, as Senators Kyl and McConnell insist that cutting taxes does not reduce revenue or increase the deficit.
Majority rule is a thing of the past: 41 senators hold the country hostage via a perpetual filibuster. Our mixed-race President is called a racist by the very people who hold posters depicting him as a witch doctor at all-white rallies. There are 5 job-seekers for every job opening, yet their unemployment benefits are somehow the cause of the deficit. BP offers 20 billion for the destruction of the gulf; and Obama is "shaking them down."
Up is down and down is up. On the right, the ability to accurately perceive reality has been compromised. Ideology has become pathology."
Part 1.
Part 2:
"It's as if fear--of change, of dark skin, of foreign languages and poor people--has created a virus in the body politic. When an Alabama legislator with a confederate flag on his pick-up truck runs campaign commercials starring Abraham Lincoln, you know the virus rages unchecked.
A completely fictional narrative can take root as a functional reality. By 1939, a huge majority of Germans took as gospel truth a completely imagined Jewish conspiracy to control the world and persecute a totally invented "Aryan race." The mania took root in the last years of the Weimar Republic, nurtured by the upheaval of massive economic dislocation. Exhausted by the First World War, the rest of Europe offered no forceful counter-narrative. Even the moral indignation at German anti-Semitism led to a mere pittance in the number of Jewish emigrants accepted by attendees of the Evian conference of 1938. When talk is cheap, human life can be even cheaper.
The rise of the viral right here has fostered the same kind of fevered imaginings. The demonization of A.C.O.R.N. evokes the Protocols of the Elders of Zion. Fox's insistence that three--count 'em, three--"New Black Panthers" pose an imminent threat to white babies has the familiar ring of the accusation that Jews thirsted for the blood of Christian infants. Considering lists of the undocumented circulating in Utah cite the due dates of pregnant women, it would seem it's the brown babies who need to be afraid.
As the son of a woman who grew up under the occupation of France, I have always been fascinated by the Second World War. Volumes have been written asking how the German nation could have gone collectively mad--and there isn't an explanation that fully satisfies. All we really need to know is that mass hysteria can make for very nasty history.
I understand that our President prefers consensus to confrontation, but his fear of being cast as the "angry black man" is leaving a vacuum. Keith Olbermann does a mean Edward R. Murrow, but his ratings don't compete with those of Herrs Limbaugh or Beck. Only Obama, with his mastery of oratory and possession of the bully pulpit, can hope to give voice to a forceful narrative of uncompromising truth. He doesn't have to be hostile, just unrelenting.
Someone besides Joe Wilson needs to cry out: "You lie!" The time is now, before it's too little, too late."
"Our mixed-race President is called a racist by the very people who hold posters depicting him as a witch doctor at all-white rallies."
And what rallies might these be? You give me ONE example of this and I will believe you and your ignorant author. The truth is, it isn't happening and you see no evidence of it, but you WANT to believe it, so you do.
If you are refering to the TeaParties, and you know that you are, then you need to read something more than the Huff. There are actually many black tea party members, and black Tea Party organizations, speakers, activists, etc. There are actually black conservatives, too! (black doesn't just vote democrat, although you guys all love to paint with a broad brush)
"three--count 'em, three--"New Black Panthers" pose an imminent threat to white babies"
Again, wrong and stupid. No one is afraid of the 3 Black Panthers. (the reactions given by the black bystanders say it all. This statement does not reflect the feelings of the majority) What people are up in arms about, is the fact that this was voter intimadation that should not be allowed---from ANY group. It is also alarming that statements like the statements that were made by our Black Panther friends have not been condemed.
The truth is: NO ONE IS STIRRING UP RACE ISSUES, EXCEPT THE LEFT.
You guys love to use the race card, but it is backfiring. We aren't there anymore. It took more than the left (your numbers are too low) and minorities to elect Obama by such a majority. I think that is fairly obvious.
The problem is, most who voted for him did not understand the direction that he intended to take the country in. Most, are watching in horror now. We all like the guy. Hell, he is a likable guy. Sense of humor, good speaker, all of that. Probably a really nice guy. BUT not his agenda.
You need to get you nose out of Huffington and read and watch something different once in a while. You might learn what all this is about.
As for the unemployment benefits: Republicans wanted to extend. They just want the benefits to be paid for by the unused stimulas money and not added to the debt. Progressives initially packed the bill full of additional spending that was ATTACHED to the bill and they didn't want that, and it is my understanding, it was removed and revised prior to the most recent vote. Good! It needed to be.
There are BILLIONS in unused stimulas monies, and that is what should be used to extend the benefits. WE DON'T NEED MORE DEBT!!!

You know what REALLY gets me? Your trusted opinion sites like Media Matters and the opinion writers at the Huffington Post, don't give you the whole story. They give you half of the story, or no details to the story, and instead of looking for more, you guys just run with it.
Like the unemployment extension...You think that the republicans just want people to go hungry and live in tents? Have you ever bothered to LISTEN to WHY they have a problem with the extension? Does it make sense to you when we are drowning in debt, and have almost a Trillion dollars set aside for stimulus monies for us to go into more debt as opposed to using the stimulus money to fund this? After all, Pelosi says that the extended unemployment IS a stimulus! No. They don't mention the reasons or compromise that the republicans asked for--they would rather paint them with evil intent!
As for the TeaParties? They want to ignore the African American TeaParty members and pretend they don't even exist. You can even google them. You can find black conservative organizations, black tea party organizations, etc.
You allow these people to NOT tell you all the facts and you just go along like a bunch of sheep. Never even bothering to wonder if there is more to the story.
Now I understand why so many of you took out stupid mortgage loans! You don't ask the important questions, you don't do the research. You just go along with what you are told because it is what you want to hear!
This is a video the dems are using to prove tea party memebers are racist, they only had to edit the hell out of it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GYfmShJe5MA
Oh yes. And it will get worse and worse. These people are desparate to find something that they can tag as "racism" coming from the TeaParty movement! They will plant fake racists, edit film clips, and flat out LIE because they can't play fair. They are like spoiled children who will do anything to get their way. They don't let those pesky ethics get in the way.
These are tactics used by the Left throughout history; "the ends justify the means"
Casey-
take a look at this video and tell me what percent of the people shown are racists? Granted some of the people are but most pictures are nothing more than filler. This is the best the left can come up with and feel free to comment on the vids, as I have.

Brandon:
Naturally, there are always idiots in every crowd! Yes, some of the signs are racists, and some are just plain ignorant. It is clear that not all came from the same rally. Some could have come from any kind of gathering---we don't even know that these were TeaParty events. BUT you can bet 1 thing for sure. Some are planted there by the Left to make it look bad. THAT is an organized effort, because the Left can't play fair.
Funny. No one EVER complained when Bush was being called a Nazi, Hitler, burned in efigy, made to look like the Joker, etc. No, no, no. then it was called "patriotic protest" or "freedom of speech". These people are dangerous.
