From The Washington Post -- January 17, 2012:
Palin's Egocentric Umbrage
By Eugene Robinson
In the spirit of civil discourse, I'd like to humbly suggest that Sarah Palin please consider being quiet for a while. Perhaps a great while.
At the risk of being bold, I might observe that her faux-presidential address about the Tucson massacre seemed to fall somewhat flat, drawing comparisons to the least attractive public moments of such figures as Richard Nixon and Spiro Agnew. I could go so far as to observe that Palin almost seemed to portray herself as a collateral victim. Surely a former governor of Alaska - who served the better part of an entire term - would never seek to give the impression that she views any conceivable event, no matter how distant or tragic, as being All About Sarah.
Yet this is the unfortunate impression that Palin's videotaped peroration seems to have left. I am at a loss to recommend any course of corrective action other than an extended period of abstinence from Facebook, Twitter and other social networking sites.
Palin doubtless understands by now that characterizing her alleged persecution by journalists and commentators with the term "blood libel" was a semantic faux pas. One must question, however, not only the tone of her complaint but the content as well. Did she, indeed, have a legitimate grievance? I must be frank: The evidence suggests not.
Days earlier, Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, a Democrat, had been shot while meeting with her constituents; six people were killed in the incident, including a federal judge, and more than a dozen others injured. It happens that Giffords' district, in southern Arizona, is passionately divided on just about every hot-button issue.
It also turns out that before last November's election, Giffords gave a television interview expressing her concern about the bitterness and rancor of our political debate. In the interview, Giffords cited a graphic that Palin had posted on Facebook - a map identifying congressional districts being targeted for Republican gains. The districts, including that of Giffords, were highlighted with an unfortunate symbol: the cross hairs of a rifle scope.
One of Palin's aides must have been trying to lighten a dreary week with a bit of humor when she claimed that the cross hairs were actually those of a surveyor's scope. Perhaps the ruse would have been more effective if viewers of Palin's "reality" television show hadn't recently watched her use a high-powered rifle, not a theodolite, to fell a caribou. Or, indeed, if Palin hadn't famously counseled fellow Republicans not to retreat but instead to "reload."
In her statement, Palin gave the impression of being appalled that journalists mentioned the cross-hairs graphic in the hours after the rampage in Tucson. She singled out reporters and pundits, not political activists who might bear partisan animus. Surely she must have anticipated that viewers who recall her course of collegiate study - journalism - would be baffled at this reaction.
In the days since, we have learned that the alleged gunman, Jared Lee Loughner, appears to be an unbalanced young man whose political views are confused and perhaps irrelevant. But at the time, nothing was known about the assailant or his motives. I am confident that at least one of Palin's professors must have taught her that in reporting about a shooting, the fact that the principal target felt threatened is highly relevant information, as is the specific nature of that threat.
It is also relevant that most of the violent political rhetoric that blights the public discourse is emanating from the far right - a constituency for which Palin speaks, often so colorfully. In the 1960s and '70s, this was not the case; anti-government invective and unsettling talk of "revolution" came primarily from the far left. Palin is perhaps too young to remember that era, but as a student of history she must have read about it - and must recognize the contrast between then and now.
For her to take such umbrage, then, at the reporting of evident, pertinent and factual information deepened the impression that she is - and I must be frank - astoundingly thin-skinned and egocentric.
The way Palin portrayed herself as not only a popular champion but also a martyr reminded me - not for the first time - of Eva Peron. If she chooses this unpromising route to higher political office, I suggest she find a suitable balcony from which to deliver her next address to the nation.
Or perhaps - solely in the interest of civil discourse - that there be no next address.

Eugene, "Sarah" must really get
under your skin! The Lady is
"damned" if she waits for the facts before making a comment, and
"damned" if she dosen't. You sir
are a "parrot" spewing out trash
you hear, and too lazy to research the "vile garbage" that falls in your lap. Think for yourself man!
You gotta be a lot smarter than you
sound.

Americans are about to find out just how much baseball and our judicial system really are alike.
Common Cause, which I'm privileged to lead, has asked the Justice Department to investigate whether Supreme Court Justices Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas should have recused themselves from the landmark Citizens United vs. Federal Election Commission case last year because they may have attended secret retreats where lobbying and political strategies were developed by some of the biggest players in the 2010 elections.
A year ago this week, Scalia and Thomas supplied critical votes in the 5-4 Citizens United decision that was of particular importance to two politically active billionaire brothers, Charles and David Koch. Charles Koch, president of Koch Industries, the nation's second largest privately-held firm, and brother David have spent tens and perhaps hundreds of millions of dollars over the years on conservative political activism. The Koch-sponsored group Americans for Prosperity has been critical to development of the Tea Party; it promised last year to spend $45 million on the Congressional midterm elections.
The Koch Brothers regularly convene conservative business and thought leaders and elected officials to plot strategy around elections out of sight from the public and the press. According to a letter distributed by Koch Industries last September, Scalia and Thomas have been among the featured guests at these exclusive gatherings.
The "seminars," as Koch describes the meetings, focus on "threats to American free enterprise and prosperity" and "appropriate strategies to counter them."
The Kochs' next seminar is set for next weekend at a posh, Palm Springs, Ca. resort. Their last session, in June 2010, included discussions on "understanding this electorate" and "mobilizing citizens for November" in order to "change the balance of power in Congress." Attendees "committed to an unprecedented level of support," Charles Koch wrote in September.
That's where the Supreme Court, and Scalia and Thomas in particular, come in.
The two justices were among those who voted in Citizens United to lift a 63-year-old ban prohibiting corporations, trade associations and unions from spending unlimited amounts on political advocacy.
Both judges mentioned in the previous post are CONS!!
If one of the Brits can see through the spin created by the crazy Rethugs - in this case Glenn Beck - why can't millions of USA citizens?

British MP Tom Watson To Glenn Beck: 'You Are A Bigot'
Excerpt:
"If Glenn Beck were here today I would say to him: "Glenn Beck, you are a bigot. You bring shame to your country, not because you lack balance, but because you are an unthinking buffoon. Rupert Murdoch tolerates you because you are his useful idiot. He uses you to get a foothold in the doors of the powerful. Like his phone-hacking journalists and his pugnacious leader-writers in Australia, you are expendable. Let us hope he disposes of your nasty brand of intolerance sooner rather than later."
It is Rupert and James Murdoch who should answer for bigots such as Glenn Beck and phone hackers such as Clive Goodman and Glen Mulcaire. They employ them. They promote them. They are responsible for them. It is time for thinking citizens in the United Kingdom, the United States and Australia to unite against the Murdochs' vicious brand of politics that masquerades as publishing."
Re the previous post:
Pretty sure that the followers of Beck and his ilk must be of the same "caliber" as their "leaders" = "lowlifes".
Give me 1 example of his bigotry...I'll wait.
Casey, the reason leftist are guilty of regurgitating so much garbage is,
they know somewhere,somehow, some of
the "stench" will stick with some
uninformed soul. It matters not that
the pure adulterated fabrications they spew out have no "rhyme nor reason." Problem is, they can't"show
and tell," they can only tell they
have nothing to show. The "serpent" told "Eve" the "Tree" was good! As they say "the rest is history."

Dear Gene,(may I call you Gene?)If you hate "Sarah" so much that's
your prerogative. I went over your
comments again and came to the conclusion that you really dislike
the lady, and again the prerogative
is yours. It would help me if you
would say "I hate her because she
believes in 'small' government I
believe in 'Large.' She believes
same sex marriage is wrong,I don't.
She believes terminating the unborn
is wrong,I don't. She believes this
government should live within its

position I could understand,but not
listing your differences is to say
the least perplexing!

Scalia and Thomas have become tbagger politicians. How much are they getting paid for that? Even judges in the USA get bitten by that bagger lunacy bug. (read corporatists)
Might as well abolish the Supreme Court as it just serves the corporatists and elitists!! Instead of interpreting the Constiution as it was written, they're taking the false belief from the baggers such as Bachmann!!

"Scalia and Thomas are not just getting mixed up in a political movement. They're getting mixed up in a political movement that centers on a skewed interpretation of the Constitution and a dangerously simple view of American history. Whatever the ethical implications of Supreme Court justices becoming political celebrities, there is reason to worry when justices become celebrities for such a cause."

the anonymous that you are trying to talk to is a Socialist. she doesn't really know WHY and she NEVER will debate. She simply hates, and name calls.
She LOVES to call people racist, and she HATES America.
I thank God she is Canadian and cannot vote in our elections.
Ottawa, Canada
1920
The Dominion Elections Act recognizes that every eligible Canadian over 21 - male or female can vote in federal elections.
Unfortunately, this does not include Aboriginal peoples, Inuit or anyone barred from a provincial voters' list including Asians and Hindus.
It seems that in 1920, human rights are afforded only to Caucasian humans.
Couldn't help but want to share this with you all:
Starting in 1858, Chinese "coolies" were brought to Canada to work in the mines and on the Canadian Pacific Railway. These new immigrants were denied the rights of citizenship, including the right to vote, and in the 1880s, "head taxes" were implemented to curtail immigration from China. In 1907 a riot in Vancouver targeted Chinese and Japanese-owned businesses. In 1923 the federal government passed the Chinese Immigration Act, commonly known as the Exclusion Act, prohibiting further Chinese immigration except under "special circumstances". Japanese Canadians were also subject to anti-Asian racism, particularly during World War II ***when many Canadians of Japanese heritage — even those who were born in Canada — were forcibly moved to internment camps. The Canadian government officially apologised and made restitution for the treatment of Japanese Canadians in 1988.[10] The Exclusion Act was repealed in 1947, the same year in which the right to vote was extended to Chinese Canadians. **In 1967 all racial restrictions on immigration to Canada were repealed, and Canada adopted the current points based system.
"Did you know that in the 19th century, there were thousands of KKK members in Canada? At the same time, did you know that it was a crime for Chinese restaurant owners to hire white women? Think racism is not an issue? Think again. Constance Backhouse is a professor of law at the University of Ottawa... She is the author of Colour-Coded: A Legal History of Racism in Canada, 1900-1950, where she takes the reader through the history of Canadian law in which non-whites have experienced systemic racism in the justice system."
Think you need to look into your own backyard before you start pointing a finger at my country Anon2. You Canadians have your own shameful history and nasty practices!
Hmmm. Not until 1947. Really???

Another excerpt from my previous link and post:
Finally, there is the service economy. As many defenders of off-shoring have pointed out, even if Apple produces most of its products in China, a lot of the value-added stays in the U.S. Apple sales create jobs for workers in retail stores, warehouses, and shipping, as well as a relative handful of elite software and hardware designer jobs, not to mention corporate profits.
Swell, but in the absence of a labor movement, or higher minimum wages, or other pressure for decent retailing wages, the service economy is turning into a Wal-Mart economy, where domestic service jobs that are created mostly pay lousy wages.
These alarming job trends were not caused by the financial collapse that began in 2007. Rather, the prolonged recession revealed deep structural changes in the U.S. economy that reflect a gross imbalance between a corporate elite and ordinary working people.

In a move that is raising plenty of eyebrows, Missouri state Senator Jane Cunningham has proposed a bill that would "modify" child labor laws, eliminating the prohibition on employment of children under 14. The proposal has sparked an outcry in the state but Cunningham defends the bill, saying that it's important to cultivate a work ethic in young people and emphasizing that kids are still prohibited from working in dangerous professions.
"It's kind of a common sense thing," she tells The Huffington Post. "Right now, it's so over the top with regulations -- what businesses have to do, schools have to do. Parents should be in charge, deciding on the work ethic of their children."
Cunningham says that children are still protected by law from working in "dangerous jobs, like coal mines, with animals, with blades or involving dangerous stunts." She says that her bill simply loosens an overly broad prohibition on child labor and would allow kids to work at movie theaters, to babysit or to cut lawns, blaming the hysteria on union "misinformation" and politics.
Here is the language in her bill (SB22):
This act modifies the child labor laws. It eliminates the prohibition on employment of children under age fourteen. Restrictions on the number of hours and restrictions on when a child may work during the day are also removed. It also repeals the requirement that a child ages fourteen or fifteen obtain a work certificate or work permit in order to be employed. Children under sixteen will also be allowed to work in any capacity in a motel, resort or hotel where sleeping accommodations are furnished. It also removes the authority of the director of the Division of Labor Standards to inspect employers who employ children and to require them to keep certain records for children they employ. It also repeals the presumption that the presence of a child in a workplace is evidence of employment.
Even Jay Leno had some fun with the proposal, quipping last night:
"And in Missouri, Republican state Sen. Jane Cunningham has introduced a bill that would eliminate her state's child labor laws. Well, yeah, I mean, why should the 10-year-olds in China be getting all the good factory jobs?"
Yeah, let kids work instead of going to school and do their homework in order to compete with other countries in the world. Perhaps they also would be able to overtake many other menial jobs in the USA who are earning the minimum wage? Yeah, what would be the minimum wage for child labor? It should be less than what kids in China get for a day's work in order to compete with them.
A Great article, Anonymous. Thank you for posting it. We need many more articles like this to try to break through the fog of Right-Wing lies and deceptions, and show people the truth about what is really happening today.
I agree with you completely, Anon. Many Amecans are among the dumbest people on Earth. They keep voting against their own economic interests and for the benefit of the Koch Brothers and their cronies who want to keep 99% of the American Pie for themselves (90% isn't enough for them). These dupes fall for all the phony Right-Wing propaganda and keep voting for policies which will consign themselves and their children to perpetual poverty.
